"After driving 300 miles to visit my daughter who lives in Upton (i live in Scotland but came from south Elmsall) I thought it would be a good idea to take everyone out for a drink and a meal, bought two drinks to start with as we were waiting until the others arrived, bar staff couldn’t work out if they were able to take uk money?? After keeping my wife waiting at the bar standing with the drinks until they could decide what to do and meanwhile having other staff running around trying to find the manager who never turned up. I decided to just pay contactless and leave, I’m glad we did, as while leaving we were recommended not to buy the Carvery as it wasn’t fit for the dog. We went to the Barnsley oak instead had a lovely drink together, sadly couldn’t have food as they’d stopped serving but they did take our UK money and were very friendly. Ended up going to a stone house pub in Doncaster road had an amazing meal and all were happy. They too took UK money. So Upton arms, £200 went somewhere else instead of your till. We wouldn’t come again or recommend you, neither will my daughter or friends who live in Upton. This is probably the only bad review I’ve ever put in, but when businesses don’t care about their customers and treat them like we were treated i have no sympathy. We visited Sunday 14/8/22, my uk money would include Scottish notes sorry but i was unable to reply to managers comments."
