The Princess Theatre
The Princess Theatre, located at Woolloongabba, Annerley Road, 8, is a historic institution that holds a significant place in Queensland's cultural heritage. As the oldest-standing theatre in Queensland, it has undergone various transformations throughout its existence, solidifying its position as Brisbane's newest hub for live music, entertainment, and the arts. Originally designed and built as a theatre in 1888, the building has witnessed a rich and diverse history. Initially known as the South Brisbane Public Hall and later as the Boggo Road Theatre, it was finally named The Princess Theatre in 1893. Throughout the years, The Princess Theatre has played multiple roles, serving as a vaudeville venue in the 1890s, a movie house in the 1910s, and a rehearsal center for the United States Entertainment Unit during World War II.
