About Queensland Theatre
Welcome to Queensland Theatre, located at 78 Montague Road in South Brisbane, Australia. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to acknowledge the Jagera and Turrbal people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work. We recognize and respect their unique relationship with the lands, seas, and waterways. Our utmost respect goes to their Elders, both past and present, as well as all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
At Queensland Theatre, we rely on the support of our wonderful supporters and theatre lovers like YOU. We are currently raising funds to train more teaching artists and create more paid opportunities for artists to share their skills with the young people of our state. By supporting us, you are contributing to the growth and development of the arts in our community.
Stay connected with us through our fortnightly letter, where our Artistic Director, Lee Lewis, shares her love and insights. Indulge in a behind-the-scenes experience by listening to the stories and inspirations that drive our productions here at Queensland Theatre.
If you're an aspiring artist, we invite you to apply for the next round of Queensland Premier's Drama Award (QPDA) submissions. To gain some valuable insights, we interviewed Ryan Enniss, a previous QPDA participant, about his experience and any advice he has for new entrants. We also have Damien Ryan, the director of As You Like It, sharing his inspiration and vision for his interpretation of Shakespeare's famous romantic comedy.
Inclusivity and accessibility are important to us at Queensland Theatre. Discover how we incorporated these elements in the design and development of Ryan Enniss' production, Drizzle Boy. This heartfelt story about a young autistic man navigating his way through life was selected as the winner of the Queensland Premier's Drama Award 2022-23 from over 200 entries.
We also had the pleasure of catching up with Peter Sutherland, a Stage Manager with 20 years of experience in the theatre world. Hear his fascinating tales and insights from his career.
As Queensland Theatre's largest education offering, we are committed to providing valuable learning experiences to students of all ages. We believe that a theatre is only as great as its people, and that includes YOU. Your support and involvement are essential to our work. Join us on this exciting journey as we continue to bring the magic of theatre to our community.

Reviews of Queensland Theatre
"Beware if you purchase season tickets and contract Covid. There are no special considerations as a season ticket holder. Now that there is "no longer a government mandate", their policy around Covid has "reverted to what it was pre-covid". Why does the world seem to think Covid has gone away or is not still killing hundreds of people weekly? It still needs to be considered an exception because it is STILL DANGEROUS! Whether or not there is a mandate does not change this fact. Covid hasn't become like a cold or flu and it NEVER WILL. Qld Theatre will not even move tickets for a final performance to another play. Let alone consider credits or partial refunds - which I did not ask for after the manager (Mads?) advised our only option was to "move the tickets to an earlier performance this week”. Ummm... ok, sure, let's go out tonight fully infectious instead, maybe we can pass the virus on to some of your more vulnerable patrons. What an excellent policy, designed to encourage people to do the wrong thing. Ill-considered and stupidity incarnate. Anyone considering season tickets would be better off not, and booking each play as it comes up, and booking first nights, not final nights (which is my strong recommendation) because Covid isn't going anywhere. And unfortunately, nor is Qld Theatre's moronic policy around it. And yes, I do appreciate the business POV that Covid cases are not Qld Theatre's fault and they still need to make money, and that some idiots out there will abuse the policy - but is it good business to permanently lose season ticket holders? Because that's what just happened here. Poor goodwill policy is a shortsighted business strategy that inevitably has worse long-term repercussions."
"Great location! Factor in extra time if you are driving in for a 6.30pm show, but great to get there by bicycle. No racks, but the fences are sturdy and my bike was fine. Best thing here is free sparkling water on tap! So make sure you bring your water bottle!"
"Really small and intimate theater. Loved being so close to the actors. Bar was fast at the intermission. Great venue. Looking forward to the next production."
"Watched drizzle boy last minute on a random Tuesday Great production, the actor was really really good. Amazing at evoking emotion and showing the audience what it’s like to be autistic and go through life. Well done"
"This place has a rich history and is an integral part of Brisbane culture. The theatre is amazing and to see all the effort that goes into set carpentry, writing, casting, wardrobe and preparation, really adds to how special theatre really is. The team that run this place do a great matinee. The bar food is great and the staff do a wonderful job when it's busy."
