About The Princess Theatre
The Princess Theatre, located at Woolloongabba, Annerley Road, 8, is a historic institution that holds a significant place in Queensland's cultural heritage. As the oldest-standing theatre in Queensland, it has undergone various transformations throughout its existence, solidifying its position as Brisbane's newest hub for live music, entertainment, and the arts.
Originally designed and built as a theatre in 1888, the building has witnessed a rich and diverse history. Initially known as the South Brisbane Public Hall and later as the Boggo Road Theatre, it was finally named The Princess Theatre in 1893. Throughout the years, The Princess Theatre has played multiple roles, serving as a vaudeville venue in the 1890s, a movie house in the 1910s, and a rehearsal center for the United States Entertainment Unit during World War II.
The Princess Theatre has embraced reinvention, accommodating various businesses such as a clothing factory, paper wholesaler, engineering firm, and even a church at different times. However, after a period of dormancy, the building was lovingly restored and reopened in 2021, returning to its original purpose as a world-class theatre.
Situated in the heart of Woolloongabba's emerging entertainment and lifestyle precinct, The Princess Theatre is surrounded by the vibrant historic district of Clarence Corner. Its strategic location near the Mater Hospital, South Bank, and the new Woolloongabba Cross River Rail transport hub makes it easily accessible to both locals and visitors.
The Princess Theatre offers a dynamic and contemporary performance space, featuring a 900-capacity auditorium, four bars, a café, private event spaces, a rehearsal room, a co-working creative office, and an outdoor courtyard. It hosts a diverse range of live music performances, captivating productions, and surprising events, creating an immersive experience for audiences.
As a cornerstone of Brisbane's arts scene, The Princess Theatre fosters a deep connection with the local arts industry. It proudly supports Brisbane and Queensland artists, as well as musicians and entertainers from all over Australia and the world. The theatre serves as a platform for creativity, collaboration, and community engagement.
The Princess Theatre acknowledges the traditional owners of the land, the Turrbal and Jagera people, who have been the custodians of this land for generations. It recognizes their ongoing connection to the land, waters, and community, and honors their cultural heritage.
Whether you're a lover of live music, a theater enthusiast, or simply seeking a unique and immersive cultural experience, The Princess Theatre invites you to step into a world of entertainment, creativity, and community in the heart of Brisbane.

Reviews of The Princess Theatre
"This has probably been my most visited music venue in Brisbane. Always a good time, never a worry! Get in, get on, get down."
"Beautiful intimate theatre, my absolute favourite venue in Brisbane, always meticulously organised with fantastic staff. 100% the best place to see your favourite artists"
"I have been to several concerts at The Princess now. Lovely ambience, and staff always friendly. Handy bars inside the venue. Sound quality has always been top notch. Large enough to feel the vibe of a crowd, yet small enough to remain an intimate gig even when full. Easy to get to via public transport. Plenty of drink and food options nearby."
"Been here for Phum Viphurit; love the venue here. Such a lovely historical building from 1888! Me and my friends got standing tickets, but it is absolutely fine and great for getting closer to the stage."
"This place deserves 6 stars as a venue! It’s absolutely beautiful, it’s clean and it’s classy. Totally recommend the Princess Theatre. The only thing that wasn’t absolutely perfect is that it was freezing cold (outside was about 20 degrees, inside felt like 10). Apparently the temperature can vary depending on numbers (it was a full house when we were there) but on a cool night I would definitely bring a decent jacket."
