"As a former pilot, I've been to a lot of ophthalmologists in the past, since I needed an eye exam every two years. And while that is no longer the case, I found Dr Bruce Newman and his staff to be a very knowledgeable and dedicated group of professionals. And it was very refreshing to have the doctor spend as much time as was required visiting with you, educating you and discussing treatment options. He's very experienced and a quick study and I was impressed how quickly he was able to ascertain the health of both of my eyes, and spotted situations that other doctors had missed, sich as pterygium and dry eye. Seems he's very up on the latest treatments and medications as well, attending seminars and conferences with other professionals. Also doesn't seem to want to jump into surgery until it's the proper time. My wife and I are very glad now, that my eyes are "in his hands""

"To say that I had a negative experience with Dr Newman is an understatement. I first called his office twice to ask if my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona) is accepted there. They assured me twice that yes they do take it. I went ahead and scheduled the appointment. When I got there, there was multiple forms I had to fill out and several times I declined additional testing (such as refraction). It wasn’t until I got taken in the back that the assistant informed me that there is a $200 fee for Cataract exam. I was not aware of this fee so I was ready to walk out when Dr Newman waved across the hall and said “I got it, I’ll handle it”. I told them I cannot pay this fee. I said “please only do the tests that my insurance will pay for”. They decided to completely ignore that and do the testing on all these other machines. Then when he came into the room he proceeded to guilt me into paying the $200 fee because the other machines are so outdated that “no one uses them anymore”. And these new machines are $80,000 and they need to charge customers. He then stated that $200 is nothing and that I probably spend that much when I go out for burgers. No I don’t! $200 is my weekly food budget for our family of 5. We are surviving on 1 income and barely making ends meet. Because I still wasn’t budging he decided to make me a deal. Since I had a lot of astigmatism he was going to add a small procedure during cataract removal that will take care of it. So I paid the $200 even though I absolutely couldn’t afford it. I cancelled my surgery the next day and tried disputing the charge but because I didn’t take a picture of the document where I declined this $200 exam my claim was denied. So here I am now in absolute tears because I just got off the phone with my insurance company who informed me that they denied the $400 claim Dr Newmans office put in. The front office lied about accepting my insurance. And now the money I saved for Christmas presents for my 3 young kids will have to go to this greedy doctor. I am absolutely livid and heartbroken. Also, just fyi I called around and nobody else is charging the $200 fee for cataract exams. So unethical and shady. When a patient tells you to only do basic exam you don’t ignore that in hopes you can convince them to pay you this bogus fee. You should be ashamed of yourself."

"I had my PRK done about two months ago. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I have been wearing glasses since I was 10 years old and I feel like I was never able to see and now 2 months after the surgery I am at 20/20. The office is very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Newman explained to me how the procedure looks like and what to expect. The actual procedure is very quick.The aftercare was amazing. Dr. Newman treated me as his priority. He followed up with me daily and answered all my questions promptly. I would say I needed the most attention within the first week, and after that my eyes were healing quickly. Within a month, I saw a dramatic change and improvement. I strongly recommend this office to get this procedure done."

"I recently went to Dr Newman due to a cataract in my right eye. My husband had cataracts removed by Dr Newman in both eyes with wonderful results. One of them was difficult and it turned out amazing. He recommended Dr Newman. Dr Newman examined both of my eyes thoroughly and pointed out a retina problem in my left eye. He told me what he thought it was but sent me to a retina specialist to be sure. He was correct in his diagnoses. That issue will be watched in the future. Dr Newman removed my cataract along with refractive correction due to my nearsightedness. I previously used mono vision with contact lenses and this was my distance eye. I haven’t seen this well since I was a child! Very happy with the results. The office staff is knowledgeable and caring. Dr Newman does take his time with each patient so this may put appointments behind. I would rather have a doctor that makes sure everything is right than one that rushes you out the door. I just had my second cataract surgery and refractive correction on my left eye. This is my reading (near) seeing eye. Due to the more complicated issues with this eye as stated above and more in depth refractive surgery needed, Dr Newman could not guarantee how well it would turn out. He said he would do his best. After the healing process and following his instructions to the letter, I am able to see most regular print for reading. I do need readers for very tiny print. Overall, I am very happy with the results. He did an amazing job!"

"I had cataract surgery for both eyes and Dr. Newman takes every precaution to ensure a safe and successful outcome. He is the only doctor I know that provides his cell phone and is there for you if you have any follow up questions or concerns. I had two successful surgeries and can't say enough about Dr. Newman and his very experienced staff"
