Mr Spuds

"Mr. Spuds is a really good meat & three restaurant, with a rotating assortment of choices every day for lunch, and a set selection for dinner. They also have a lot of (fried) seafood options as well as steaks, sandwiches, salads and stuffed potatoes. Strangely, for a place with “spuds” in the name, there aren’t a lot of stuffed potato options to choose from — seafood, sirloin and cheeseburger, and the two I’ve tried have been just okay, flavor-wise. They are a full meal, at least. The country fried steak might be a family favorite, however. It’s a little thin but it’s cooked perfect so that it’s tender on the inside and still crunchy (but not dry or greasy) on the outside. The chicken tenderloins are also very good thanks to being good quality breast meat that doesn’t get dried out from overcooking. Liver and onions got a thumbs up from one family, too. Sides are all mostly if not all home made, with excellent turnip greens* that remind me of Nikki’s West in Birmingham (which is a huge compliment in my book). The mac & cheese is creamy smooth home style, as well. Green beans were more ‘eh’ and may be canned but doctored up with bacon, which is never a bad thing. Onion rings, fried pickles and hush puppies are all really good appetizers. The pickles are some of the best I’ve had around here, and a lot of places do good fried pickles. You also get a TON of them for the price. Sweet tea is really good, and the service is down home friendly but still professional. Overall, a really nice place to go for good country cookin’. * - Turnip greens vary in quality by the season, so sometimes they're not fresh and not that great. But in season, they're usually the best you'll find anywhere."

"The service was great. Very friendly and welcoming staff. The prices are on par with everywhere else. I had the Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes were good, the green beans tasted good, but most of them still had the hard stems. The Salisbury steak was really tender and besides being a little bit too salty, it tasted really good. My father-in-law had the lasagna. He indicated that the flavor was great, but it was just a little bit dry. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and we would go back in the future."

"It's quicker than a Sunday dinner at Granny's or your Aunt's house but slower than the average restaurant. It's like they're spinning their wheels and are shooting themselves in the foot. Need a little streamlining. Food is great though and is worth the wait. Maybe need to fix that roof leak and spruce up some paint. Solid blue plate restaurant. Locals eat here."

"This is such a quaint little gem, located down 181 towards a Fairhope. The other day, we were headed out and wanted to grab a bite of lunch, and revisit some of our favorite little restaurants. We decided to revisit Mr. spuds, and were not disappointed. We both had a burger and fries, and tea Both of our burgers were cooked to the right temperature that we had asked for, the buns were soft and butter grilled. We both made quick work of them! Like I said, this is a quaint little place, has a few TVs posted around with various programming, The wait staff, and servers are always down home folks, pleased to be there, happy to help, and have a great attitude! My sweet tea never got empty, and they consistently checked on us to make sure we were doing fine! Great little place, stop in and give them a try !!"

"First timer. We had the country fried steak, rice, gravy, turnip greens, fried chicken, pinto beans, hash browns biscuits, stew squash, and okra/tomatoes. Nothing special except the okra/tomatoes. Skip the hash browns. Price point a little high."
