About the Business

Veterans Park in hamilton Ohio

Welcome to Veterans Park, a cherished tourist attraction located at 10 New London Road, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. This picturesque park is not only a place of natural beauty but also a hub of community gatherings and celebrations. Nestled within the park is the historic Colligan Lodge, a versatile venue perfect for weddings, banquets, showers, retreats, reunions, and more.

The Lodge, located at 20 New London Road, is equipped with a caterer's kitchen featuring modern amenities like two microwaves, a commercial warming oven, an ice machine, a garbage disposal, and a side-by-side refrigerator. Its inviting interior boasts a beautiful fireplace and a new terrace, offering a charming setting for events. With a 2,000 square foot space that includes 12 round tables, each 5 feet in diameter, the Lodge accommodates up to 84 guests, with the option to use the terrace for additional seating, weather permitting.

The Colligan Lodge stands as a tribute to Michael J. Colligan (1926-1994), whose patriotism and generosity were honored with the building's re-dedication on May 18, 2001. Originally constructed in 1932 by the American Legion on land leased by the City of Hamilton, it served as the clubhouse of the Frank Durwin Post, American Legion, until 1945. Mr. Durwin was notably the first Hamilton soldier killed in World War I. The building later housed Hamilton's Parks and Recreation Department until it sat vacant.

Thanks to the efforts of Leadership Hamilton Class IV (1994-95) and the Hamilton Community Foundation, the Lodge was restored in 2000-01, preserving its historic charm while adding modern conveniences. This restoration was part of the Foundation's 50th-anniversary legacy gifts to the community, which included a new kitchen, restrooms, an added terrace, and extensive landscaping.

Veterans Park and the Colligan Lodge, lovingly maintained by the Hamilton Parks Conservancy, continue to be a testament to the community's spirit and dedication to preserving its history and beauty. Whether you're visiting for a leisurely stroll or planning a special event, Veterans Park offers a welcoming and memorable experience for all.

"Well I got to this park at 10pm to grill on mother's day and a cop told me to wrap it up and leave while I was in the middle of grilling, and it clearly says open 24 hours on Google! Very misleading information! And the cop was a woman cop that was white, and she parked nearby and watched me and my small children until we left. What a terrible experience me and my children went threw!"

"There are not enough parking spaces. I was there for a birthday party at shelter 2 and someone had rented the building for the day and they took up most of the parking. The building has designated parking spaces and they should not be allowed to park anywhere else."

"It's a cute little park! Not too big, but it has some decent views."

"I don't know how to put a new review on here, but we went back to fireworks at Veterans Park. This time we decided not to park by the river because last year could barely see the fireworks because of trees blocking view. This time we went up hill and took 2nd right and parked directly in the park and it was amazing!! The fireworks were right on top of us. The grand finale was amazing. The people and kids got a bit rowdy much more than last year but there were police walking or driving around asking people to turn their stereos down and the kids were throwing fireworks to the ground and it was annoying because they did it too close to where people were sitting. Their parents didn't even supervise them. I went to park but didn't get much of a chance to really take a look, as it started to rain..so will have to go back and review again. From what I saw it was really nice with a great view of river. I did go nearby to watch the July 4th fireworks being set off there, and a bit disappointed. Fireworks were beautiful but nothing unique or nothing new added. They were just kind of boring. Might try Red, White and Blue Ash next year, and there is always the amazing fireworks on labor Day, WEBN I can watch on TV. Those are the best I have seen. As far as parks, I think my favorite is still Marcum Park in Hamilton for the concerts."
