About the Business

St John Bosco Catholic Church

Welcome to St. John Bosco Catholic Church

Located at 7113 Columbia Avenue, Hammond, Indiana, St. John Bosco Catholic Church is more than just a place of worship; it's a community where you're embraced as family. We invite you to join us in our journey of faith, where we are dedicated to being disciples of Our Lord Jesus Christ, extending His love and compassion in both word and deed.

With a rich history rooted in service, St. John Bosco Catholic Church proudly carries the legacy of our patron saint, John Bosco, an Italian priest canonized on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1934. Founded by Fr. Paul Schmid, this was the first parish in the world to honor the newly canonized saint. Today, we continue this tradition of outreach, living our Baptismal call by being Christ's heart and hands to those in need.

Our vibrant parish is home to over 450 families from South Hammond, Woodmar, Munster, and beyond. We offer numerous ministry opportunities, ensuring that everyone can find their place and purpose within our community. Whether you're seeking spiritual growth, fellowship, or ways to serve, you'll find a welcoming environment here.

Are you looking for a place where you can grow in the love of Christ through service to your neighbor? Discover how St. John Bosco Catholic Church can be your spiritual home. Come and be a part of our family, where all are welcome, and all belong.

"I'm a long-time member of this Parish, and if you go there I'm the youngest member of the Sunday Choir. I honestly love the community- I have a thing for volunteering, and this church has tons of things to do that pop up around holidays and winter such as the Fish Frys every Lenten friday (hosted by the school) and a Soup Kitchen every Lenten Wednesday. I couldn't imagine going to another church. However, the school is another subject- I went there, all 8 years od elementary, and it's truthfully not the best school. Currently my younger sister is in the 5th grade, and almost everyone is having difficulties with her teacher. As I don't go there anymore, and they recently cycled out almost all the teachers save about 5, I can't attest to the current state aside from the musoc teacher, who I still see on occasion. Aside from that, the DRE (director of religous education) has a very tight grip on the activities of the school. All in all, I generally love this parish- It's given me life experience I can use, and a friendly community to turn to. I would reccomend worshipping here, but probably not going to the school until it straightens itself out proper. (Their Pierogi sales are always the best, though.)"
