St Paul's Episcopal Church

Welcome to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a vibrant place of worship located at 1101 Park Drive, Munster, Indiana. Our church is steeped in rich history, originally offering services on Rimbach Street in downtown Hammond, Indiana. As our congregation flourished, we moved south to our current location in Munster, where a beautiful church was constructed in 1989, embracing many of the architectural elements from our Hammond roots.

As you approach our church, you'll be greeted by the sound of "Francis," our dedicated bell, which rings daily at 9:00 am, noon, 3:00 pm, and 6:00 pm, and announces service times on Sundays. Upon entering through the bell tower, you'll find a plaque commemorating the bell's dedication.

Inside our chapel, you'll discover the Dove window, a symbol of the ascending Holy Spirit, gifted by Winifred Swanton in memory of her husband, John. The chapel also features the carved wooden reredos from our original Hammond altar area and hosts Wednesday services at 9:30 am. As a liturgical church, we use the Book of Common Prayer for all services.

In the nave, you'll be welcomed by a holy water font engraved with the name Emma Hohman, a nod to our Hammond heritage. The stained glass windows, except for the Crucifixion window, along with the pipe organ, altar, altar rail, pulpit, and lectern, were all brought from Hammond. Our kneelers, hand cross-stitched by parishioners, and the carved Stations of the Cross, a memorial gift, add to the sacred ambiance.

Adjacent to the church is the Parlor, a cozy space for informal gatherings and coffee hours during inclement weather. The Cloister, an enclosed area outside, serves as a serene spot for meditation and socializing in warmer months. It features a cross of the four evangelists and is adorned with beautiful plantings and watchful gargoyles.

Our tour concludes with a visit to our Sunday School classrooms, designed for various age groups and decorated with joyful themes. We also have a Bride’s Room for wedding preparations and special events. At the end of the hallway, you'll find The Cloister in the Woods, a full-service banquet facility perfect for hosting events.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church is also part of the Calumet Episcopal Ministry Partnership (CEMP), a testament to the power of community and faith. Formed in 2010, CEMP is a collaborative ministry between St. Barnabas, St. Paul, and St. Timothy's, showcasing how the Spirit of God works through the People of God, especially during challenging times.
