About the Business

Welcome to Scenic Overlook, your gateway to adventure and reflection in the heart of Jackson, Missouri. Located on Overlook Road, our business offers a unique blend of nature exploration and historical insight. Prepare for your visit to Missouri's breathtaking state parks with our exclusive Cool Parks gear, perfect for enhancing your outdoor experience.

For campers planning a trip during the off-season (November through March), please note that showerhouses are closed, and water is unavailable at full-hookup sites. However, potable water can be accessed from the frost-free spigot at the dump station.

A visit to Trail of Tears State Park, located nearby, offers a profound journey into one of America's most poignant historical events. Here, you can learn about the harrowing journey of the Cherokee Indians during the harsh winter of 1838-1839. The park's visitor center provides a detailed narrative of this tragic chapter, alongside showcasing the area's natural beauty.

For those seeking recreation, the park offers shaded picnic areas, hiking and horse trails, and fishing opportunities in the Mississippi River and Lake Boutin. Enjoy the stunning vistas of the Mississippi River, a prime location in Missouri for observing migratory waterfowl.

Please check our Park and Site Status Map for any temporary closures due to weather, maintenance, or stewardship activities. Note that on major holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, our staff will be unavailable, and park buildings will be closed.

We invite you to explore, reflect, and enjoy the serene beauty and rich history that Scenic Overlook and the surrounding area have to offer.

"This is an absolute beauty of an overlook! AND the drive in is wonderful and peaceful - drive slow and enjoy. You can see up & down river. If you are lucky a train will pass below."

"The trail of tears story is a very sad chapter in our history and there isn't as much here as I hoped. The visitor center was nice with static displays and the park attendant (young man) was very helpfull (he helped us to get a map, postcards and loads of extra information as it was not too busy) The river overlook was in good shape and accessible to limited mobility as it wasn't steep, the handrails strong, the river was very quiet that day we visited. The full story stretches back hundreds of miles and many decades but this is a worth while stop to see where a lot of native American landed after being moved out of the eastern areas around the state of Georgia, and ultimately even further west as these were given to more of the settlers. Don't forget to see the large cross in the distance from the scenic overview of the river, Bald Knob cross of Peace I believe."
