About the Business

Southern California Live Steamers

Welcome to the Southern California Live Steamers Miniature Railroad!

Located at 2290 Washington Avenue in Torrance, California, the Southern California Live Steamers (SCLS) invites you to experience the joy of miniature railroading. Our 7.5-inch gauge miniature railway offers public train rides on the first Sunday of every month from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and the third Saturday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Group rides can also be reserved on these days, ensuring a memorable outing without the wait.

Our train rides, lasting between 15 to 25 minutes depending on the route, are a delight for families and train enthusiasts alike. Please note that children must be able to walk on their own and be at least 32 inches tall, accompanied by an adult, to ride.

Are you looking for a fulfilling hobby or a way to contribute to the community? Whether you’re retired and seeking a rewarding pastime, a teenager eager to learn about train operations, or someone with DIY skills, SCLS welcomes you. We offer various membership options, and no engineering degree or expensive equipment purchase is necessary. Once trained, members can enjoy operating our equipment and being part of a vibrant community.

Join us on a run day to experience the fun firsthand, or visit us any Tuesday morning to meet the team and explore volunteer opportunities. Since January 2024, we have proudly provided over 668,000 public train rides!

For special occasions, such as birthdays or group events, visit us at the depot an hour before your desired ride time and make a donation to bypass the queue. We suggest a $2.00 donation per rider to support our nonprofit organization, which relies solely on community contributions.

We are continually enhancing our facility, thanks to the generous efforts of local Scout troops and volunteers. If you'd like to contribute plants or materials, please drop them off during a run day or send us an email.

SCLS also offers SCLS T-shirts in various sizes and colors, available at the depot. Our club meetings are held on the third Saturday at 10:30 AM, just before the public run.

Thank you for your support and for making SCLS a cherished community destination. We look forward to welcoming you and your family for a unique and enjoyable train ride experience. For more information, directions, or to learn about our history and achievements, please explore our website. See you soon at Southern California Live Steamers!

"Donation based. Friendly staff. Ride is about fifteen minutes. Child must be at least 32 inches. Infants not allowed. Two year old toddler really enjoyed it. We went on three times. Older children and just adults were present and also enjoyed it. Free parking available. Only noticed adjacent park bathrooms. Open only first Sunday 11-3 and third Saturday 12-3."

"Wilson park has a train station tucked in the corner. It currently only rides the first Sunday and third Saturday of the month but I highly recommend it if you have a kiddo who likes trains or rides! The volunteers working there are so nice and the line went by super quick! Can’t wait to go again!"

"This place is so much fun! There are so many options. I went for a friend's little ones party. The park next to here is amazing huge tree house, the train of course, a playground, tons of picnic spots with bbqs and battling cages. Plus on the other side was the saturday farmers market. The train was great for the kids. The lone was long but worth the ride. It was long enough to justify the wait. Lol parking is tough tho."
