Welcome to the United Water Conservation District (UWCD), a dedicated local government office committed to managing, protecting, and enhancing the water resources of Ventura County. Since our inception in 1950, following the formation of the Santa Clara Water Conservation District in 1927, UWCD has been at the forefront of water conservation efforts. We have constructed vital infrastructure, including the Santa Felicia Dam, Lake Piru Reservoir, and the Freeman Diversion, to support sustainable water management across the region.
Our services extend to the cities of Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Ventura, Santa Paula, and Fillmore, as well as Naval Base Ventura County, various mutual water districts, farms, and individual pumpers. We provide essential surface water for agricultural irrigation and deliver treated drinking water to Oxnard and Port Hueneme.
As highlighted in California’s 2024 Semi-Annual Groundwater Conditions Update, UWCD is leading the charge on groundwater recharge in the Oxnard Basin. This initiative is crucial for maintaining the health and sustainability of our local water resources. Additionally, we are actively involved in collaborations with federal agencies, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to enhance our water management strategies.
