About the Business

Tampa Bay Estuary Program

Welcome to the Tampa Bay Estuary Program, located at 263 13th Avenue South, Suite 350, St. Petersburg, Florida. As a local government office and an independent special district of the State of Florida, our mission is to foster partnerships that restore and protect Tampa Bay by implementing a scientifically sound, community-based management plan.

We are excited to announce a new multi-year study aimed at understanding the priorities, attitudes, perceptions, activities, and well-being of Tampa Bay residents. Your participation in our survey will help us shape future priorities for improving the bay and enhancing the quality of life for the diverse communities that call Tampa Bay home.

In addition to our research initiatives, the Tampa Bay Estuary Program is seeking Letters of Interest for Legal Counsel Services, commencing December 1, 2024. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their letters by September 20, 2024.

We are also soliciting proposals for the Tampa Bay Regional Stormwater Controls Identification and Implementation Project. This three-phase project is designed to address stormwater management challenges, with up to $9.5 million in potential funding. Proposals are due by September 20, 2024.

Furthermore, we are accepting applications for the 2025 Bay Mini-Grant projects. These grants, offering awards up to $5,000, support environmental education and improvement projects within the Tampa Bay watershed. Applications are due by 5pm on September 13, 2024.

Support our efforts in bay restoration by purchasing a Tampa Bay Estuary specialty license plate, known as the Tarpon Tag. Proceeds directly fund our community-based Bay Mini-Grant program annually.

For those with project ideas, whether in the brainstorming phase or fully developed, we encourage you to submit a letter of intent through our electronic portal. This is an ongoing opportunity.

Stay informed with news from Bay Soundings, Tampa Bay’s premier environmental and science news journal, and explore ways to get involved in restoration efforts, such as adopting Vertical Oyster Gardens to contribute to citizen science.

Join us in our commitment to preserving the natural resources of Tampa Bay, which are vital to industries like tourism, marine transportation, and more. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the bay and its surrounding communities.

"Tampa Riverwalk Cleanup, a pollution removal advocacy is a beneficiary of a mini grant from Tampa Bay Estuary Program and the Tarpon Tag program that helps fund those grants. This grant paid for emerging contaminant removal from USF Park on the Tampa Riverwalk and other points along the Hillsborough River in downtown. Hundreds of pounds of Emerging contaminants, literally 10’s of thousands of pieces of micro pollution has been removed so far thanks to the equipment provided by this grant. SUPPORT THE TARPON TAG LICENSE PLATE. I can’t say it enough. That money is going directly to grass roots advocacy’s like mine IN THE COMMUNITY. Tampa_riverwalk_cleanup on Instagram to see the documentation of this effort. Thank you TBEP!"

"The Tampa Bay Estuary Program is a tremendous asset in maintaining & improving the waterways of the Tampa Bay region. Water is not only essential to life, but in Florida it is critical to a healthy economy. So much depends upon the value of clean water. The TBEP is nationally renown for its successful methods & strategies for improving water quality. I am grateful for the work that they and their partners perform. The benefits that their efforts yield are making a difference in one of the most valuable resources nature has to offer us."
