Located at 205 Academy Dr, Andalusia, AL 36420, First Step Substance Abuse is a dedicated health service provider committed to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. As part of the South Central Mental Health Center (SCAMHC), we proudly serve the communities of Butler, Coffee, Covington, and Crenshaw Counties with comprehensive care tailored to mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use challenges.
At First Step Substance Abuse, we understand that embarking on the path to recovery requires courage and support. Our team is dedicated to improving lives in a professional and caring manner, respecting the dignity and privacy of every individual we serve. We believe that everyone deserves access to quality care, and we strive to make this a reality through our wide array of services.
SCAMHC is a 501c3 organization, and we operate with the support of local governmental entities and philanthropic agencies. Our commitment to the community is reflected in our service to approximately 4,500 individuals annually. However, our ability to meet the needs of the uninsured is limited without your generous donations. Every contribution helps us ensure that all members of our community can lead healthier, happier lives.

"Terrible experience. Staff was belligerent and inconsistent. Was told my shorts were "too short" for visit. Purchased new clothes for visit. Was accused by staff of drinking alcohol prior to visit. Offered to do a field sobriety test for them. Was told to "lose my attitude" or no visit. Was asked to reiterate the miscommunication from staff, when I obliged I was accused of lying and denied visit with my partner. 3 weeks of trying to get one visit to see my partner, and every staff member was rude or nasty."
