About the Business

Roscoe Conkling House

Welcome to the Roscoe Conkling House, a testament to American history and architectural grandeur, located at 3 Rutger Park, Utica, New York. This historic site is an integral part of the Scenic & Historic District of Utica and stands proudly as a National Historic Landmark. Once home to the influential 1870s U.S. Senator Roscoe Conkling, the mansion is a masterpiece of Greek Revival and Federal architectural styles, crafted by the renowned architect Philip Hooker in 1830.

Our journey of restoration has been both challenging and rewarding. After acquiring these nationally significant mansions post-2008 in a state of disrepair, we have made significant strides in their stabilization and preservation, despite obstacles such as the global pandemic. Our efforts have been recognized with the Excellence in Historic Preservation award from the Daughters of the American Revolution, a testament to our commitment to preserving Utica's rich architectural heritage.

Join us for our "Walks and Talks" events, where we share insights into ongoing projects like the New Utica Children's Museum, and explore the fascinating history of Rutger Park, from its origins in the 1820s to the present day. Discover the stories of the influential figures who once resided here, including Morris Miller, Thomas R. Walker, and Nicholas Kernan, and learn about the architectural significance of these storied homes.

Your support is crucial to our continued success. We invite you to contribute to the Rutger Park Restoration Project through monetary donations, in-kind contributions, or by volunteering your skills in historic restoration, construction, grant writing, and more. Together, we can ensure the preservation of these architectural treasures for future generations.

Visit us and become part of the legacy of the Roscoe Conkling House, where history comes alive. Thank you for your support in safeguarding our shared heritage.

"Nice to see that the Utica Landmarks Society is in the process of restoring Conkling’s home. Conkling’s political legacy is pretty non-existent as his big issue was defending political patronage but as person he’s kind of fascinating. 6’2” boxing aficionado health nut who loved poetry and adultery."
