"First let me preface this review by saying I’m a black/brown, indigenous, femme, that’s disabled, and a single mom. I’m a walking meme for housing discrimination. My lease lapsed and my current landlord informed that his wife was pursuing a divorce. Unwittingly, my landlord forced me into a month to month situation. I was in my unit for four years and he told me it was a long-term situation. It was the perfect home for me as it had a lot of character and amenities. I was proud to live there as an adult who was a former teen runaway and experienced street homelessness, and lots of bouncing around. It was the home that said “I’ve arrived” in my 30’s. Needless to say, I was devastated and afraid of my future housing prospects not being from Jersey City. I saw a place on Zillow and reached out to SK. She spent a lot of time getting to know me and my situation. I was referred to Tamayo who had a listing one block away from me. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go, but Tamayo also got to know me and made it happen all within 13 days! I still can’t believe I was housed so soon. SK and Tamayo are warm, caring, and honest people who look out for you. Although, I had initially reached out to SK, she understood the other property was a better fit and she championed me all the way to close. Their admin Jazmin championed me as well and was a great help. Those three are the dream team! If you identify as “other”, please give them your business! It was a relief to not experience discrimination. Plus, this was a small deal and they still treated me with dignity and care the entire transaction.
