About the Business

St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Church

Welcome to St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Church, a vibrant and welcoming parish of the Orthodox Church in America, located in the heart of Woodside, New York. Our church, situated at 7029 45th Avenue in Queens, serves as a spiritual home for a diverse, multi-ethnic community. We are dedicated to offering services in English to ensure that all who seek to experience the beauty and depth of the Orthodox faith feel at home.

Founded in September 1958, our parish began as a small gathering of Orthodox families eager to worship in their native language and impart the teachings of the Orthodox faith to their children. Over the years, we have grown into a thriving community, thanks to the dedication and perseverance of our founding members and clergy.

Our journey began with services held in the homes of parishioners and various rented spaces until we secured our current location through the generous support of Maspeth Savings and Loan Association. The groundbreaking ceremony for our church building took place on May 15, 1960, and we were blessed to officially open our doors on May 20, 1962.

Throughout our history, we have continually sought to enhance our facilities and enrich our community life. From the construction of our church hall and parking lot to the renovation of our church interior in 1980 and the consecration of a new Altar table in 1996, we have been committed to creating a welcoming and inspiring environment for worship.

Our parish has been blessed with the leadership of many devoted clergy, including our current Rector, Fr. Daniel Degyansky, who joined us in 1997. Under his guidance, we continue to thrive as a spiritual haven for all who seek to deepen their faith and connection with God.

We warmly invite you to visit us at St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Church, where you will find a community rooted in faith, love, and mutual support. Whether you are a lifelong Orthodox Christian or simply exploring your spiritual journey, we hope to welcome you into our parish family soon.

"I’ve been attending this parish for over 2 years. Fr.Dan has helped me get more involved in the Orthodox faith I was born into, and the small, down to earth nature of the parish really makes you feel like you’re part of a church family. Services are all in English, just over an hour (short by usual Orthodox standards), and all are invited to coffee hour after!"

"I’ve been a member of this small but friendly parish for 25 years. Dear readers, please completely ignore Allison (Kitonoffs) rant and attack on our parish. I remember her family quite well, very rude, unfriendly and disrespectful. When her grandfather died her grandmother, aunt and father demanded a memorial service and lunch for him on Christmas day, didn’t matter to them how much that particular holiday meant for others, whether it was a baby’s first Christmas or a year filled with challenging accomplishments. They came in, blocked the parking lot with all their cars and took over the entire day without so much as a thank you, they took off and we never saw them again, until they needed something and once again, no consideration of others, or even a show of gratitude. They just take and use, make it all about them and leave and that’s exactly what Missy Allison Kitonoff is doing in her rather slanderous post."

"I have been coming to this parish regularly for a little over a year now and my experience so far has been positive. It is not my place to affirm or condemn Allison's review, but I pray for a resolution to the conflict."
