About the Business

Brooklyn Public Library - New Utrecht Branch

Welcome to the Brooklyn Public Library - New Utrecht Branch, a cornerstone of cultural and educational enrichment located on Bay 17th Street in Brooklyn, New York. Since its inception in 1894 as the Free Library of the Town of New Utrecht and its incorporation into the Brooklyn Public Library system in 1901, this branch has been a vibrant hub for the community.

Nestled in its current location since 1956, the New Utrecht Branch stands as one of Brooklyn’s most active libraries, bustling with patrons of all ages. Here, you can immerse yourself in a diverse array of programs such as Summer Meals, Kids Create, Chinese brush painting, Story Play, computer courses, and ESOL classes. Our large auditorium and versatile meeting rooms are perfect venues for special events, particularly those designed for older adults.

Beyond books, our library offers unique services like borrowing up to three tools at a time from the Greenpoint Library and accessing museum passes to over 80 cultural institutions. We also provide a comprehensive guide to resources for genealogical research.

Your involvement helps sustain the New Utrecht Branch as a vital cultural and civic center for everyone. We invite you to explore, learn, and engage with us, and become a part of our thriving community.

"The members of staff at this library are exceptional. They go above and beyond to help you in every way! The environment is very peaceful and relaxing. Do you have issues with technology, for example, how to use a software to complete an assignment? Go there! You will get the help you need!"

"Local library is good. Making simple photocopies was difficult. Needed the assistance of the librarian. Library has 2 floors. Various tax forms are available. The branch no longer takes book donations."

"It's a good library for kids, but not for adults who seek a quiet place to work/study. The first floor is for adults and is very noisy . Moreover, there are only 4 plugs available if you want to charge your PC/phone"

"They have a large seating area and many options to choose from. Two floors with plenty of space and family friendly atmosphere. Wheelchair accessible. … Awkward location and not a very clean street. Some strange people hang out in the seating area and the noise level can get high at times."
