Welcome to Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County

Located at 10 Park Place, Fredonia, New York, Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County (LVCC) is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to transforming lives through literacy. In a community where approximately 1 in 5 adults are functionally illiterate and 35% of households are non-English speaking, our mission is to empower individuals by providing free literacy instruction.

At LVCC, we offer personalized one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions to help individuals improve their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English. Our passionate volunteer tutors are the backbone of our organization, working tirelessly to equip learners with essential skills for personal and professional success.

Get involved with LVCC by becoming a tutor, bookstore assistant, or board member. Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those striving for literacy.

Adjacent to our education center is The Next Chapter Bookstore, the only bookstore in Fredonia. Here, you can explore a vast collection of used and vintage books suitable for all ages. Not only does the bookstore provide a treasure trove of literary delights, but 100% of the proceeds from book sales directly fund our free literacy programs.

For those in Jamestown, visit our extension within the Prendergast Library at 509 Cherry St. Our operating hours are Tuesday from 12pm to 6pm, and Wednesday & Thursday from 10am to 6pm.
