"I was treated differentially by many different teachers. Especially around the time I didn’t want to see my dad because he was abusing me, teachers who knew my dad were being very rude to me during a time in my life that I was really struggling rather than being understanding. Differential treatment is something I’ve observed happening to other kids as well, especially those who came from a lower economic background. I can say that I’ve had very positive experiences with some teachers and staff, there are definitely good teachers at Fredonia who genuinely care about all students, but most teachers don’t. I suspect that some teachers might be taking bribes from parents with more money to curve their child’s grades, I had a teacher in high school who specifically said that he wouldn’t be taking bribes from anyone and it seemed like he was genuinely grading students based on the effort they put in, but it seemed like other teachers were grading differentially and were harsher to some students than others. There were some teachers who treated me rudely if I ever asked them for help whether in class or after school whereas they were more polite and attentive to other students. On the contrary, I had some teachers who were eager and willing to answer any questions I had on assignments and encouraged students to reach out for help if need be. I understand that teachers get burned out easily, but it’s never okay to treat a child differentially because of whatever they may be struggling with. I appreciate some of the opportunities, they have an excellent music program. I wish I had more solo opportunities because that made me doubt my musical and creative abilities. I felt like some of the families had preferential treatment based on their last name and status. I also experienced bullying from students and teachers alike and I never wanted to get in trouble so I was always a well behaved kid. I don’t think children should be punished for having behavioral issues."
