Dr. Louis J. Avvento, MD, is a highly esteemed physician whose journey began with a medical degree from the University of Rome in 1981. His passion for oncology was ignited during his residency at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, where he witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by oncology patients due to limited treatment options. Driven by a desire to revolutionize patient care, Dr. Avvento pursued a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Stony Brook University, which paved the way for his illustrious career.

Board-certified in four specialties—Internal Medicine, Hematology and Hospice, Medical Oncology, and Palliative Care—Dr. Avvento has become a cornerstone of healthcare in the region. He has served as the Medical Director of East End Hospice since 1990 and has been instrumental in developing palliative care programs at Peconic Bay Medical Center and Southampton Hospital. His efforts have led to the establishment of a Palliative Care Fellowship at Southampton Hospital, furthering the education of future healthcare providers.

Dr. Avvento's commitment to excellence is evident in the numerous accolades he has received, including being named among the "Best Doctors on Long Island" by Newsday and "Best Doctors" by New York Magazine. His practice, which began with a modest team of three, has grown to include 45 dedicated oncology professionals, all working together to provide the highest standard of care.

As an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai, Dr. Avvento continues to contribute to the academic and practical advancements in his field. He is also a former board member of Fighting Chance, a testament to his dedication to community and patient advocacy.
