About the Business

Welcome to the Oriskany Museum, a captivating destination nestled in the heart of Oriskany, New York. Located at 420 Utica Street, our museum offers a unique journey through history, celebrating the rich heritage of this small village with a big story to tell. As a premier tourist attraction, we invite visitors to explore our extensive collection that highlights significant moments from the past, including the pivotal Battle of Oriskany, known as the "bloodiest battle of the Revolution."
Founded in 1967 as the Battle of Oriskany Historical Society, the Oriskany Museum now resides in its own dedicated building, providing an immersive experience into the village's storied past. Our exhibits include fascinating artifacts and displays, such as the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany CV-CVA 34, on loan courtesy of the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida. This legendary vessel served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, before becoming an artificial reef in 2006.
Oriskany, located between the cities of Utica and Rome, was originally established by the Haudenosaunee in the eighteenth century and later became a bustling manufacturing hub along the Erie Canal. Today, this charming village is home to about 500 households, each contributing to its vibrant community spirit.
In addition to our historical exhibits, don't miss the Oriskany Farmers Market, held every Wednesday from 2-7 pm throughout the summer, where you can enjoy fresh local produce and artisanal goods. For those with a personal connection to the USS Oriskany, we offer the opportunity to renew your USS Oriskany Reunion Association membership to stay informed about upcoming events and reunions. Registration forms and hotel details are now available on our website.
We welcome support from the community and beyond through volunteering, donating, or joining one of our supporting organizations. Whether you're a history enthusiast or a curious traveler, the Oriskany Museum offers something for everyone. Plan your visit today and step back in time with us.

"Great place to get out of the house. Some dated items, it's it's museum! Great gift shop with a very nice staff. The museum itself is laid out very nicely start at the top or start at the bottom. Loads of fun for the kids as well"
"Even the littles loved a brief history lesson before some fun on the playground."
