"This is a difficult review to write because it’s clear to me that the people who work here are caring and the majority of the work that they did on my car (after it was in a big accident), they did a great job on. However, the repair they did on my front wheel bearing and steering knuckle assembly was faulty, and the part failed about a year later, causing serious issues with my steering & alignment, & failing the NYS inspection when I took it to another shop. For the record, Alan Byer, the partner shop for Caliber, PASSED my car’s inspection after theirs & Caliber’s repairs. The new shop I went to initially thought the wheel bearing was at fault, but I ended up needing a new knuckle too, because NONE of the OEM or aftermarket wheel bearings they tried would fit into the knuckle Caliber installed. This was weird because on the receipt Caliber gave me, the part was listed as OEM. (I later learned from Caliber directly that this was an error – the part was aftermarket. This was not entirely Caliber’s fault, as this is all State Farm would pay for, but it should have been correctly marked as aftermarket!) Long story short, I had to pay for very expensive repairs due to Caliber’s error, and Caliber and State Farm refused to refund me for any of it because I got it repaired at another shop (I had to pay that other shop and could not take it to Caliber because the other shop COULD NOT PUT MY CAR BACK TOGETHER due to faulty parts Caliber used – the wheel bearing was destroyed because it had been fitted so tightly into the mysteriously sourced steering knuckle). I’m also not confident that Caliber would have installed the correct part if they had done the corrective repair. Customers should be able to get second opinions from other mechanics without being financially penalized for it, but that is exactly what happened here. I cannot emphasize enough how dangerous the repair Caliber did was. My front right wheel’s toe was 3 DEGREES. It should have been in the 0.12-0.04 degree range. I also should note that when I went to Caliber when their original repair was done, they took my car on a test drive with me on the highway to demonstrate that something was odd with the alignment – at high speeds, the car would sway slightly to either side. So even then, THEY KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG. To fix this, they sent my car to Alan Byer next door, who installed new struts and shocks on the front (a repair that I had to pay for out of pocket). Now knowing that Caliber did the faulty repair in the first place, I have to wonder if the shocks/struts were even the issue. Overall, I would have forgiven Caliber (and State Farm) a lot if they had simply admitted fault and refunded me, even partially, for Caliber’s faulty repair which could have led to another accident and/or wrecked my car’s suspension and tires. But I made the mistake of trusting that Caliber had done their work correctly (which was reinforced to me by the passed NYS inspection and their nice work with the detailing), and this is not a mistake I will ever make again, and one I want others to be aware of."
