Mendenhall Glacier

"This is a must visit if you were in the area. Plenty of great views of the glacier with a visitor center that is very well staffed with informed rangers who can answer any questions that you may have. They also have binoculars and telescopes for up close viewing of the glacier. Easy 1 mile hike to nugget falls adjacent to the glacier itself. Area is very dog friendly And plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, such as bear and bald eagles. If you’re in Juneau, don’t miss a trip over to Mendenhall."

"This is a great walk to do. It doesn't take too long (I think we took 1 hour all up, going to all spots and a long stop for photos). There are 2 spots to go, the shorter route to photo point is very quick and has the best views. Going to nugget falls isn't accessible unless you're stable on your feet (there are natural stepping stones to cross at the end), and doesn't have a great view of the glacier, but the waterfall is very cool and you can get very close to it."

"Our day in Juneau was changed due to weather and we had to find alternative activities (as our originally booked one from the cruise was cancelled) The tour bus that took us here was $75usd pp, taking us to Mendenhall Glacier visitor center for 2.5 hrs and then back to town. A quick and relatively easy "hike" will get you to the edge to the see Mendenhall Glacier and another brisk 30 minute walk will get you over to Nugget Falls. This will get you with close viewing distance to the Mendenhall Glacier. It is sad to see if receding year over year and the time motion video from the visitor center showed this dramatic changes over the last 100 years. It is an absolutely beautiful site to see, before it melt even more. We were able to spot some bald eagles perching in a tree as well. With 2-3+ people, I think catching a Taxi or an Uber may be cheaper than $75/pp. If you want to see a glacier up close, then this is a good option."

"A very nice hike out to see the glacier. It has receded several miles so you cannot get very close. The trail ends at a beautiful large waterfall and a large beach for viewing the glacier. I didn’t get a chance to go in the visitor Center as the place was overly crowded with cruise passengers. Best viewing is probably in the afternoon most months where the sun is lighting up the area. No admission fee to walk down the trail which is nice."

"Beautiful views!! The glacier itself it a little underwhelming, however the entire park and views of the glacier & mountains is spectacular. There park is very well maintained and easy to get around, and it's a short walk to get to the photo areas. Lots of places to take photos!! Also, I recommend getting the shuttle from downtown to the glacier - it's about $45 per person."
