About the Business
The spectrUM Discovery Area, located in Missoula, Montana, is a museum and tourist attraction dedicated to sparking curiosity and inspiring learning in visitors of all ages. Our latest exhibition, ResilienceMT, explores resilience and showcases stories of strength and perseverance.
Funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, our Transforming Spaces project aims to create a more inclusive and culturally responsive environment for Missoula's urban Indigenous population, as well as all learners in our community.
EmPower Place is a dynamic community space where children and families can engage in hands-on learning and interactive play. At spectrUM, we introduce visitors to our favorite STEM role models and show that anyone can be a scientist. Come see for yourself what a scientist looks like at spectrUM Discovery Area.

"Kids LOVE this place. Such a wonderful way to spend a day."
"This place was neat but unfortunately it's entirely open to the Library. I had a small group of elementary age kids and I was constantly getting glared at from library patrons because the kids were excited. There was no wall separating the area. Other than that, the exhibits were really neat and educational. There is a separate room for water play, which was nice!"
"This is the absolute coolest feature in any library ever. My kids love it and it keeps them engaged! My only complaint is that I never remember to bring extra clothes because they always get soaked by the water feature."
"Amazing place for a few hours! I would say max age limit is about 7 before they would be uninterested in the activities. Ideally 2 to 5 and for around 2 hours."
