"My fourth grader started struggling in the late fall with the depression that so often affects ASD (specifically Aspergers) kids. It got severe enough that he wanted to be dead and was trying to make himself sick to stay home from school. I was terrified and broken hearted for him. We emergently saw a counselor through his pediatrician office initially (we hoped it was just the anxiety related to all the changes in school structure around the holidays... ASD kids don't do well with change), but after a couple months (when we got through the holidays and he wasn't getting better), the counselor recommended that we find someone who could do more ongoing care. That's when we found Nancy. I met with her on my own initially, and liked her experience (especially work specifically with ASD and gifted kids). My son started with her right away. After the first appointment he expressed that he really liked talking to her. Over the next few months his entire demeanor changed. He has grown to feel confident in who he is, and has developed lots of coping skills he uses both at home and at school. We had our last appointment yesterday. He's happy to be done with counseling, but wishes he didn't have to be done with Nancy. I am so grateful we found her, and feel good knowing she's there if he ever needs her again."
