"Ashford Mill Ruins as a nice place to stop and stretch the legs and take in some of the desolate wonders of the Death Valley National Park. There are two sets of ruins to explore."
"Made a quick stop here at Ashford Mill Ruins while enroute to Badwater Basin to see the historic Lake Manly currently present due to all the rain this year in Death Valley. Interesting bit of history concerning the gold mill that was located here in the early part of the 1900s. Not much in the area to see except for the ruins of a concrete/stone building and factory mill just north of the building. There is a public restroom here and when it comes to national park restrooms, this one is barely used and so much cleaner and fresher than other restrooms that you will find in the park. Still worth the stop if you have a moment and it is only a few hundred yards off the main highway (Badwater Highway). Almost forgot, you will also find a couple of picnic tables at this location but there is no cover. Not a problem on cooler and less sunny days but I sure would not eat here during the warmer months."
"The Ashford Mill Ruins in Death Valley National Park are an intriguing historical site that offers a captivating glimpse into the region's mining past. As I explored the site, I was struck by the haunting beauty of the decaying structures against the barren desert backdrop. The remnants of the mill, which operated in the early 20th century, transport visitors back in time, evoking a sense of wonder and curiosity about the people who toiled here during the mining boom. While the ruins themselves are fascinating, the surrounding landscape is equally breathtaking. The vastness of Death Valley National Park's arid wilderness reinforces the mill's isolation and adds a touch of mystery to the experience."
"No matter where you are in Death Valley it’s all so…..atmospheric. I mean just look at the photo I took of the loneliest looking public bathroom/toilet in the world! You only get that here! Only did this as we were passing but like all the stops here in DV, they are worthwhile!"
"Another time travelers delight. Folks had an interest here at one time, erected a mine and buildings, and then just left it. I tried to imagine what the folks must have been talking about who occupied this isolated spot. A time before modern technology. When folks had gumption to just go and do something. I liked this spot because it is so remote, listening to the wind, looking at the great, great expanse of country. It must have been heart breaking to leave."
