California Building

"I’m a wedding planner and was unsure of doing a wedding here but realized it’s a great space with many awesome possibilities!"

"I just hosted a wedding at the California Building. The facility and surrounding park are a great area for this type of event. There is lots of room for the guests and buffet. The City of Reno was really helpful and took great care of us. The Easter egg hunt was also going on the day of our event, but they had the whole parking area reserved for my guests and we didn't run into any conflicts with all that was going on at Idlewild that day. Thank you City of Reno for a great staff and being so accommodating."

"The California Building is a nice place for a group. However, not for winter afternoons. The high windows and the orientation of the place make for lots of squinting and that wasn't so good. This was November 26th."

"This building has served as a gathering place for all sorts of events for 100 years or so. You just feel like you're slipping on an old cardigan sweater when you walk into the California Building at Idlewild Park."

"I hosted my wedding here and it definitely was way more than enough space for about it people. There were outlets everywhere which was very handy. The bathrooms are very industrial and there is no counter space for getting ready so definitely get ready elsewhere. The patio was very large and we got a lot of use out of it. The Rose Garden we did not rent but nothing was in bloom yet so not great for pictures in May. The kitchen was very large and had tons of space for extra drinks and food with under the counter shelves. The venue comes with a ton of tables and chairs which meant we did not need to rent any so that worked out very well. The dimensions for everything were included on the website. The only downside I had was the office was hard to get a hold of let alone get them to let us in to confirm outlets. I reserved the place back in October but wanted to get in about a month before the wedding to gather ideas for the decor and show my mother the venue as she would be there setting up the morning of the event. I called for about a week once a day trying to get through and on occasion when I would get someone they said they did not have time to show the venue. It seems with all the places they manage it is not a big deal for them to allow people to tour the building which was disappointing. If I had that much push back when I first found the place I definitely would not have been able to reserve it. Other than that the place worked out great. There are places to put curtains over the windows which I wish I would have known so just a heads up if you wish to have an event there and allow for mood lighting. I am glad I had my wedding there due to the shear amount of space and the price (cheapest I found in town by far)."
