Island Comfort

"Buyer beware of the business practices of Island Comfort. I purchased an ac unit for approximately $8000 in July 2023. I was told by Rocky and their company reps that their electrician was licensed and insured. The electrician they sent out, Edwin Abalos, installed a 20 gauge electrical wire, for a 22 amp ac unit. This caused my ac unit to have electrical problems, with turning on and off, as well as electrical problems in my house. I had Edwin do additional work installing 3 prong outlets in 3 bedrooms and 3 ceiling fans. He did very poor work, and my house began to have power surges, sparking from the outlets and switch failures. He didn’t resolve the issue. I called RICO to check on his license status, since Island Comfort wouldn’t respond to my calls regarding the electrical problems with the AC and additional outlets that were installed. I was informed by RICO, that Edwin Abalos was not a licensed electrician and to not allow him to do further electrical work on my house. When I contacted the owner of Island Comfort Inc, Ken Starr, he referred Jeff Phung to me and said I would be taken care of. Jeff stated that Edwin had a certificate for electrical work, and he was unaware Edwin was not licensed, because he didn’t check. Jeff sent Edwin back to my house with another electrician who didn’t provide a license either, to try to resolve the electrical problems with the AC and outlets. The issues were not resolved. I had to push hard to get an electrical permit and building permit from Island Comfort for the AC unit 5 months after purchase. They sent out Steve Tuttle, a licensed electrician and told me he would pull the permit for the electrical for the AC and the permit for the 3 outlets and fans installed by Edwin. Steve Tuttle only replaced the 20 gauge wire for the AC with a 30 gauge wire, and pulled the permit for the AC. He left me with no response and no permit for the other work done on my house by Island Comfort’s electrician Edwin Abalos. Make sure to ask for permits and license numbers if you choose Island Comfort Inc. They didn’t take the necessary safety precautions with my home. If I knew beforehand that their electrician wasn’t licensed and insured I never would’ve bought the AC from them."

"Rocky and his team installed a split A/C system into our two sided condo. The system had three controllers and one condenser. Island Comfort was a pleasure to work with from beginning to end. They always showed up on time, performed high quality work, and addressed all our concerns completely with professionalism and island aloha. Kari even coordinated our HOA approval while we were out of the country. I would use them again without any reservation."

"Ok where do I even start, I received 3 quotes from top 3 AC companies on Kauai. Ended up going with island Comfort for many reasons. First they have been doing AC on island for many years. When I called they were not trying to sell me, Rocky was extremely informative and asked all the right questions to make sure I was taken care of and I understood everything. When Rocky the sales rep came to my home i felt they he was their to listen to me not sell me. Rocky gave me a wealth of knowledge and I felt like he was the owner the way he was so passionate about wanting to help us with our needs, he made the process so easy. That guy is just amazing. They use all the top notch technology with Lennox split systems they have other options as well. Their quote was the lowest out of the the 3 by FAR not becuase they use cheap products or hire cheap labor but becuase its ran by a family owned business with not a lot of overhead. I was thinking i needed a bigger system and Rocky said i didn't need as big as i thought and would be chilly and as I'm typing this review im in a blanket and the family now sleeps like were living in Antarctica. The financing was a breeze they set me up with a killer rate and my payments are way less then I thought would be. When the crew came to the house they were like doctors doing an operation. Clean cut, professional, lasor focused and detailed and rockstars. It didn't feel like "workers" were at my house it felt like family. The work was impeccable with focus on details. Jeffery was the head tech and the first thing he said to me was his job was to make sure we get the best service with the best workmanship and he was there to make sure we are 100% satisfied. The whole crew was amazing and nice and focused on making sure their work was flawless. There was one tech I dont recall his name but he had a tattoo on his head and he was like a scientist his attention to detail was motivating and you can tell he was a master of his craft. You can tell they cared about quality and their work. They were like a tight knit machine and completed the job in 2 days. Their work was clean like on the set of "This old House" my house was buzzing with high level professionals working as a team on a mission to deliver AC perfection. They had to do a lot of carpentry and their placement of the hardware was perfect. they worked on my house like it was their own, they took their time but were fast. They didn't cut corners. I'm very thankful for Island Comfort and recommend them to everyone. If you want to pay double with corners cut go with others but if you want good quality AC with good old fashioned amazing customer service with people who really care about their work, go with Island Comfort."

"Not only did Zeke give us an estimate in a very competent and professional manner, he spent time answering all of our questions and explained different purchase options for us. The installation crew (Jeff, Rocky, Zeke, David, and Jared) were punctual, friendly, and courteous. Although the entire team worked efficiently, David stood out as the person who worked continuously with high competency and displayed high work ethics throughout the entire day, even as he cleaned up every bit of left over cardboard and remnants from the installation process. Jeff worked meticulously installing the condensers, everything looked so impressive. I highly recommend this company! David and Shar McCormick"

"Phenomenal service. I purchased a split system for my condo. I got different bids and island comfort was low because they have an electrician on staff so they can charge less overall (no extra fee for an electrician) . They did a good job on the installation, left the job site clean and followed up a few times making sure all was good. A few weeks ago I was using it and it died. I called and they sent a tech out. The lead guy on my installation showed up as well and they took a look at the system. My unit seemed to be bricked and they ordered the parts. I think that it was a week till they would get them. Two days later they showed up with a new compressor unit. They were not comfortable with the existing equipment because it had failed so badly so they talked to their distributor who agreed to just swap it out. Any A/C company can do an install but how they back up their work and equipment is really important. I was/am very pleased with the excellent customer service."
