"Do not waste your time at this school… There has been people accusing the principal( Mrs leavy ) for being racist I didn’t think too much of it until I heard my daughter had an unfriendly interaction with her… apparently she has said “if my daughter doesn’t know what a neck is she will bring someone from the nursing program and show her what a neck is and how it’s supposed to be placed for her lanyard”. ((My daughter is an African American)) and her lanyard was in her pocket because she felt nauseous and went to the restroom to wash her face and wet her Neck.. she took off her lanyard and left it in her pocket. I was in total shock"
"the people complaining are just high school students mad they have to do work and have to follow school protocol. the cameras ARE a big flex when it comes to the corrupt schooling system. would you rather have little cameras so you can skip class and probably have a school shooting every other month, or a lot of cameras and not have many school threats? the work may be a bigger load than sierra vista or desert oasis, but that’s the point of southwest. southwest isn’t a school who doesn’t care where you end up in life after high school, southwest sets you up for the real world, they teach you how to handle college, which will have a LOT of more work so if you’re crying about southwest then i suggest you never go to college. they also prepare you for the work force with many financial classes like employability skills. unlike vista or D.O southwest doesn’t want you skipping your education. southwest is a magnet school, you only have one spot in this school and if there is someone else more worthy and mature for the education you have they will switch you out in an instant. if you don’t like the work then leave and let another student have your spot that deserves it. southwest provides so many opportunities for seniors, real life jobs within your program IF you succeed to have good grades, southwest is CONSTANTLY promoting good grades and giving rewards to those with good ones, like students with all O’s in classes gets a free box of canes. just behave well or go to a badly managed public school that’ll treat you like garbage. the only reason i am rating this school a 4 star is because they have some unnecessary rules that are disguised as safety regulations but are really rules that teacher just want instead of it being crucial for your life."
"I am reading all the reviews from what looks to be mostly student complaints. Schools should be strict in Vegas, they shouldn't be easy and they should have security cameras for student's protection. The public schools are not better. Don't believe that for a second. Every one of my son's friends, who unfortunately went to the public schools, ended up doing drugs and getting pregnant. So I am very glad I sent him to this school or I would have moved. The administration was tough, but they also helped my son out in a very unfortunate situation so his future wasn't affected. They made the right decision. My son has made good career choices and is in a very good position financially and career wise. Thank you, Southwest! The vice principal was the savior for my son there. She did the right thing for my son and our family."
"If you are someone thinking of applying to this school I would HIGHLY discourage you from doing so. Although you are fed loads of propaganda in 8th grade about random things such as the graduation rates, programs, academics, etc. Once you enter the doors of this school you will be in for a rude awakening almost immediately. Administration always prides themselves on the "achievements" of this school whilst simultaneously running it into the ground. Students at SWCTA are treated like inmates. It's almost as if many of the administration have degrees in Prison Administration rather than Education. Admin even pop into classes ever so often and give presentations about new technology they've installed to restrict students even more and tout about the over 250 cameras on campus. Is this a prison or a school for god's sake? Almost every day a new rule is made that restricts students even more and deteriorates the student experience greatly. Additionally, half of the teachers treat students like children rather than young adults who have options of their own. The other half frequently complaining about how overbearing the administration is. Overall, if you are into being institutionalized and treated like a prisoner/toddler then this is the perfect school for you to attend! Otherwise, I would recommend your zoned school if you want to be treated like a young adult with your own autonomy."
"My experience with SWCTA involves my 2 kids, my daughter was enthusiastic to enter into the Fashion Program in 2019 with the knowledge of expecting an end of program Fashion Show that consisted of every Graduating student making several garments. That did not happen nor did any type of event highlighting the skills they had learned. This needless to say was a major disappointment and a major reason for her attending. She was even discouraged from going to the Fashion school of her choice due to the lack of skills that SWCTA was able to provide. My son entered SWCTA a year after her graduating and entered the Culinary Program. He did one year there and we are now transferring him to his home school because of their poor communication and utter lack of respect that the Administration has repeatedly shown us. I called CCSD to find out the proper protocol to transfer my son. A CCSD representative told me to get a release letter from SWCTA. When I asked the registrar for a letter, she rudely came at me and said "Well you didn't speak and that's not the case." I think her response could have been more informational rather than being criticized for not having the right information. So needless to say I do believe the school has great intentions for providing Skilled Education but when you are treated poorly it reflects on the school and makes you question their integrity."
