"This company has been a nightmare! The worst! First time having to file for something like this. I would've preferred not to but stuff happens! Unfortunately bad things happen to good ppl. & you hope that when you get coverage that if anything ever does happen that you will be covered instead of worrying and stressing how bills will be paid, food, including medical! This is exactly why ppl get coverage when employed because you never know! To top things off my employer let me go due to my disability! I'm not able to work yet..so many barriers! (Way to kick someone while they are down! God forbid you or a family member goes though this). Unbelievable! So ridiculous! Karma is very real though! Anyway, Sunlife has a rude rep that I spoke with when I called once other than that no one has called & if they did no VM was left. I was constantly sending emails and they were being ignored then I mentioned something about it and then it appears they created an auto response which was the only thing being sent from that point on. Instead of making this a smooth process they have added more stress on top of what I'm going through. They appear to be very unorganized. They had sent me a letter requesting a physician statement which was submitted. Then they want to deny my claim saying that they never received the requested statement. Exhausting! I should be focusing on healing, instead stressing more and exacerbating my condition! I wish I didn't have to be going through this but I am and it appears no one has been trying to make things right and give me what rightfully belongs to me. Bullying, scamming, thieving, lying; you name it, that's their Co motto or so it appears! Their corporate office is somewhere in Canada, then they have these other small branches. Do your research before purchasing from them. Hope this helps someone."
"New group client here, they sell you "its brighter under the Sun" but in reality its the same if not worse then UNUM who we left for SunLife. HR Professionals, be very careful in your selection process it is not the same on the post sales side."
"It's awful place to work or get any plan. I have experienced both sides of it. As my wife used to work for this place I had a major surgery. Even know they said two weeks in advance she gave more to get off to be there during my surgery. They told her no that they could give her another date off a month after the one day she asked off for. They gave her the same excuse every time. We expect a heavy call load that week. No matter what it pertained to. They also have dental plans and others. They refused to pay for. Said they would reimburse myself. After doing the procedure. Never did. I suggest anyone looking for a job stay clear also anyone looking for plans. There are definitely way better ones out there. They care about nothing except there quarterly earnings. Also there stock. Stay clear of them. Would never suggest orr recommend for anyone."
"Very disappointed in this company. Purchased a dental plan called Assurant individual prepaid plan which was recommended by my dental office in Florida and what a mistake it has been. I purchased the plan in January, called to confirm my coverage, and even received a welcome packet and I thought everything was going good and I was covered. So I thought.... I received a letter February 20th that my coverage had been cancelled effective February 1st. I called to find out why and the rep. claimed they lost my payment and I had to prove that I paid for the year for my family plan with Assurant dental aka sun life. I am not sure how you just lose over $300 (makes you wonder how many other people have they collected the money from and cancelled their coverage & kept their payments). Well long story short I proved my payment and told them that I no longer wanted their plan, I was told they would issue out a refund and I would receive it within 7 to 10 business days. Well I waited and waited. I emailed and called multiple times then I finally... One honest rep. 3 weeks later told me the refund process takes 30 days and I would receive my check at the latest may 4th. At this point, I was very upset because I was lied to more than once. I have been waiting and I am still waiting for my refund and its almost mid may. I would not recommend this companies dental insurance for you or your family due to the lack of honesty, procrastinating/incompetent accounting department, and the coverage is no better than having a 20% off coupon at most dental offices. On a side note/backstory, the main reason I chose this dental plan was because one of the reps told me that it would cover wisdom teeth extractions in an Email and then when I got the coverage and went to get my teeth out surprise it doesn't cover wisdom teeth extractions.... Knowing what I know now I am not surprised this happened. So far almost everything they have told me up to this point has been a lie. They cannot even give me the same date when my check was sent out. One rep told me it was sent out on march 20th another told me they couldn't tell me that... Now I just get the check has been sent we cannot confirm the date when it will arrive. Who knows they probably never sent out my refund and I am just waiting around like a hopeful fool...Do yourself the favor and save yourself the trouble learn from my mistake by taking the cheap route for dental insurance and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY."
"I received a "Brand Fraud" letter from Sun Life Financial and called to report it immediately. No one seemed very concerned and when they told me the Fraud Center Investigator would get back to me - no one did. Still waiting. I take Fraud very seriously. I guess Sun Life does not."
