"I was in a crisis due to severe insomnia and anxiety and I called the Crisis center. The crisis counselor on the other end helped me sort out my racing thoughts and feelings, understand what was going on, validated my feelings and helped me come up with next steps so that I could get out of the insomnia episode. He was kind, compassionate, and didn’t sound rehearsed like he was reading from a script. It truly changed the outcome of my crisis. I am so glad Salem has a place like this that helps it’s community members in a crisis."

"Went there to try to get help, as I was suicidal, and all they did is put me up in one of their respit locations for one night, without any safety plan in place, by myself and then sent me home, again without any safety plan in place, the next morning. All they looked at was the most recent “issue” and not all the things that had been piling up or the fact that I was no longer taking any of my mental health meds. Honestly, you’d be better off going to the ER than this place."

"Well, that was disappointing. It is apparent to me, both from the reviews on Google, and from my own personal experience, that the service here is wildly variable. I personally have had a very positive experience, over a year ago, but I just took someone else here, and I'm honestly having trouble believing how poorly they were received. The person I brought here had a referral from the hospital, and an obvious nasty gash across his neck, that I'm frankly surprised wasn't successful. What one might reasonably expect to see / receive is a warm, welcoming reception with the general message being "How can we help?". What I witnessed instead was: The person I brought told them that he had a referral from the hospital. He expressed confusion, saying that he really didn't understand what he was there for, or what services they could provide for him. Rather than try to ease his discomfort, and / or explain to him how they might be of assistance, the woman at the reception desk just kept repeating that they couldn't make him talk to a therapist, that their services are basically voluntary. While that is technically true, it was so out of context, void of any prompt, that it seemed clear that she, for some reason, did not want this person to receive their 'help'. When I chimed in with saying that I'm not sure that he said anything about not wanting to talk with a therapist, the receptionist shot me a nasty look, and asked if I was his ride. She just kept repeating that they couldn't make him see a therapist, like she was trying to pull a Jedi mind trick on him. Well, it worked, because he left. He is impulsive, at times dangerous, and a proud gun owner. Great job. -_-"

"I came here after struggling for about a week straight. I was hesitant to go here due to the reviews, but I'm glad I went. The employee I spoke with, Allison, was very patient with me as I was still in pre- crisis while speaking with her in person. There was a long wait, but it was well worth it. She was kind, gentle, and non-pushy with the sensitive questions they have to ask. She acknowledged how I was doing at that moment and encouraged me. After coming here I was finally able to eat a meal and sleep. Something i couldn't all week long. Please give them a chance, because if you don't you're missing a chance for yourself."
