Buckman Terrace Apartments

"Applied here with a co-signer (a total of over $90 in app fees), never got a virtual tour like offered, only pictures and a YouTube video that can be found on their website Went to visit during leasing hours (I tried twice during 9-5 on a Friday) and no one answered the dial from outside. We eventually made it inside and no one was in the office. Haven’t heard anything for 5 days now after the application, obviously not even going to bother living here if they do ever respond."

"Not a secure complex. Locked entrance, security cameras on first floor and storage units are on the second floor in a locked room only those who pay for storage have the key to. Somehow, my mountain bike was stolen from inside my storage unit (my own personal lock was cut, found the pieces). When I brought this to their attention, they didn’t care at all. I asked them if they would change the locks and they didn’t. I asked them if they would be installing security cameras in the storage room and they said no. This was also after I had multiple packages stolen as well which they also didn’t show any signs of concern about or make any offers to help locate them. Eventually they installed an Amazon drop box but it’s small and packages are still left out insecurely and can be taken by anyone."

"I've lived in Buckman Terrace for 3.5 years now and have really enjoyed it. Is this place perfect? No, but I am renting and anyplace you are renting will always have its quirks. For Portland, I have read horror stories of renters on r/Portland and Buckman is a dream compared to some of them. Anything that has broken has been replaced/fixed very timely, the staff are nice and friendly, folks in the building are very friendly, there have been no domestic issues since I've lived here, noise is not too bad although the current folks above us are a little heavy footed, the park behind the building is amazing if you have a dog or enjoy exercise, proximity to transit is about as good as it gets, and there are tons of good food/beer options nearby. My biggest issue in the 3.5 years I've lived here has been some theft in the bike rooms. I (foolishly) have had two sets of bike lights stolen and since do not leave the lights on my bikes. I know a more expensive bike than my own looked to have been stolen as the lock was left on the bike room floor. This is something that happens in shared spaces; cameras may help mitigate this but I've been told they would be too expensive. There is an amazon lock box in the lobby and so there is no problem with package theft. My fiancé and I want to eventually buy in the next few years and it's going to be hard to leave this place. The location for Buckman Terrace is certainly what makes it, but this building is by far one of the better ones I've heard of. In 3 years, I have very minimal complaints all things considered."

"We lived here for nearly 2 years. Our apartment faced west so the summers were pretty brutal. The apartment was a hot box. I would not rent here again unless I was on the street side. If they are offering an apartment on the west side anywhere near the Voodoo doughnut, don't take it. It's cheap for a reason. It's fine in the winter when you keep your windows closed, but on those super hot summer nights you're not going to appreciate having 70 drunken tourists right outside your window at 3 in the morning. Remember, that place is open 24 hours a day, 355 days a year. The internet is also shoddy. The building is wired for Century Link and that's it. We were having issues with our internet connection, despite having everything plugged into the jack. After two days and multiple visits from technicians, we were told that the wiring in the building its self is damaged. You'll get internet, just at1/4 to half the speed (if you're lucky) you're paying for. We informed management, but they didn't do anything. The icing on the cake however, in the 2nd to last month we were in the building, was when water started pouring out of the kitchen light. Maintenance shrugged their shoulders and gave us a bucket. We were pretty happy to move out. Oh, and kiss your deposit good bye. We put in $650 and got back $230."
