Armstrong Wellness, located at 1655 State Street in Salem, Oregon, is a holistic family practice clinic dedicated to providing high quality individualized care to patients of all ages. Our goal is to shift the focus from illness and emergency services to prevention and empowering patients to take control of their health. "It’s a mixed bag for me here. The office staff are stellar, so that’s why it’s such a mixed bag for me. I had an NP (that I will leave unnamed) who I was seeing for my primary while I sorted out insurance, changing systems, work changes, etc. I knew coming in that it wasn’t the place for me, but it was a good interim spot until I found the right primary that worked for me. By no fault of her own, the NP was unable to prescribe me what I needed (instead, she sent me to the ER since she was a “smaller clinic” that couldn’t prescribe the medications I required at the time - highly inconvenient, considering I had to wait 5 hours in an ER for something I could have been prescribed at a regular doctor). Also, this particular primary NEVER met with me in-person over the several months I was still deep in the process of diagnosis with specialists. My former primaries (a PA-C and an MD, who were both amazing - this review isn’t about an issue with “non-MDs”) met with me regularly throughout the testing process to keep me out of pain between appointments and help troubleshoot symptoms with me. Having such a stark contrast between my past positive experience with primary care and this one was unnerving… particularly amidst so many specialists, treatments and tests. The reason I chose this primary was that it was closer to home. “Telehealth only” is very difficult already on-top of all communications through the office staff. She met with me once (virtually, online) and never spoke to me again - all communications were just through the front staff as I navigated tons of tests and specialists. This might work for some people, but it was not good for me. If you are a relatively healthy person (not in pain) and there is nothing wrong with you, this is a great place just to check in and make sure you have a place for a referral (to an actual doctor that will see you) if you need one. If you need thorough, in-person care for progressing conditions/diseases, best to go elsewhere where you will actually be seen. They were never unkind at this place, but it is off-putting when a provider constantly communicates with you through staff (never directly) and refuses to ever see you in person. I had my vitals taken when I did intake paperwork by a staff member (only once on that very first visit, just to drop off paperwork), but even then never met the person who was to be my primary at the time. Still have never seen her to be evaluated in person… only once, online. Call me crazy, but I need access to my so-called primary. So… that was long… but I wanted to let people know that it’s a mixed bag for my particular situation. I’m sure those with other medical needs (or even those who have different providers at this same clinic) won’t have such a frustrating experience. Again, no one was ever unkind (though this provider’s “approach” feels dismissive, quite frankly)… I just never received what I needed. The pandemic is over and I don’t think it’s too much of an ask to see/hear from my provider (instead of office staff) and receive the care I need… versus being sent to an ER and told the clinic is “too small” to provide what I need. It’s pretty ridiculous. But! That said, others in different situations may have a completely different experience. I sure hope so."

"It's hard for me to believe that many of the reviews here are negative. I have been going to the same doctor for about three years now and I have never experienced the negative things that were mentioned here. The receptionists/nurses were very friendly and professional. The doctor is caring and knowledgeable. Each time I called to the office, someone (not a robot) answered the call and I usually got booked for an appointment much earlier than I would normally get at other doctor offices. I also got a reminder for my appointment the day before and getting advices on how to prepare for my appointment with the doctor. It's a great place and I would recommend this doctor for anyone."
"They scheduled me and another patient at the exact same time with the same doctor, was in the exam room waiting for 45+ minutes while in extreme pain. The doctor at least was really nice, But I suffer from chronic pain and my previous successful treatment has been opioid therapy, And this office does not believe in opiates. The nurse suggested muscle relaxers. For an autoimmune disorder."
"So now that my pain has subsided and I can think more clearly, no thanks to this clinic. I am even more upset. They seem like great people but if you have anything truely wrong that needs medical care but is not a true emergency they will send you to ER or UC. This office is good for well visits alone and seems to have no desire to put forth effort to be sure your medication is affordable or you can get into see a specialist in a timely mannor. It will be all on you to push thru and fight for on your own appointment and coverage even if you are in so much pain, functioning is not a valid option. I will make calls myself now but very disappointed in their ability to make any effort for a patient who has required very little of their office over the years I was assigned as their patient."
