About the Business
The Douglas County Museum, located at 123 Museum Drive in Roseburg, Oregon, is a must-visit tourist attraction for those interested in natural and cultural history. The museum's curators have been collecting, preserving, and exhibiting items for over 50 years, showcasing the importance of mining, fishing, farming, transportation, and timber harvesting in Douglas County's history. The museum's exhibits and events highlight the connections between these industries and the region's natural resources.
In addition to the main museum in Roseburg, visitors can also explore the Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum in Winchester Bay. The Umpqua Lighthouse, towering over the beach where the river meets the ocean, offers a unique perspective on the area's maritime history.

The museum's Café and Gift Shop provide visitors with the chance to take home a piece of the museum while supporting its mission and operations.
For more information or to plan your visit, contact the museum at 541-271-4631 or the Café & Gift Shop at 541-271-1894. Don't miss the chance to explore the rich history of Douglas County at these two fascinating museums.
Reviews
"It is such a great little museum! 2 floors of exhibits and the detached train station is filled with timeless charm and exhibits with a running train. There are some interactive features for kids and an indoor and outdoor play area. Affordable, clean and well maintained."
"This makes your genealogy come alive! I followed my family back to the 1890s. I don’t know if they came by wagon or train, but I was able to see both. I was transported back to a time that appreciated hard work. I am jealous and wish that I lived back then! I believe every child should come to this museum while they are studying Oregon state history!"
"This was my first time here. I've lived most of my life in Oregon and it took me moving to Illinois for five years to finally stop and check it out. I've got to say for a smaller museum it was pretty great. I enjoyed the new exhibit on the Archie Creek Fire from 2020. The pictures were mind blowing. The rest of the museum has a lot of different things to look at. There is a downstairs, but no elevator to ride down. You either need to use the stairs, or it looks like you can walk outside and around the side of the building to get through a gate if you are mobility challenged, or maybe have kids in strollers. It's not overly expensive and has a little gift shop near the front door. If you are visiting Roseburg Oregon, I recommend stopping in and spending some time here."
"For only $8 dollars, you definitely get your money's worth. It may look small from the outside, but there's a lot to see on the inside. There are plenty of things for children to see and do. We spent an hour looking at all of the exhibits. Make sure you explore the outside because you'll miss a lot."
"There is lots of interesting stuff here but I think the highlight is definitely the taxidermy and animal skeletons showing past and present wildlife in their habitat. Be aware that wheelchair access to the downstairs exhibits (pioneers, farming equipment, a train car, the 1959 Roseburg explosion and a kids archaeology dig, as well as the accessible restrooms) involves going outside and down the hill on the side of the building (and then back up the hill on the way back.) The day I was there, I could have taken my car and parked by the wheelchair entrance to that level, but there isn't marked disabled parking there, so you can't be sure someone won't block your lift if it is busy."
