"The VFC is a wonderful place. "Veterans helping veterans and their families." Not everyone is a veteran, and some of the veterans are women. Some of the people are relatives or friends that volunteer and/or donate. They receive zero zero zero govt funding. (Vets tend to not want to rely on the govt.) Some of it is an escape, a wood shop, and a craft center, to occupy crowded minds (therapy, or to be productive), a card game of euchre, pool or shuffleboard. Occasionally someone cooks for vets. Sometimes, vets just like to feel understood by others. Sometimes vets need help. Maybe a ride to a VA appointment, help with a disability claim, or any other myriad of junk adults do, that have become more complicated due to the sacrifices so many have made. Sometimes vets just need information about rights they have. (It's upsetting that Iowa discriminates against reserve component veterans). Some vets advocate for Iowa to change their laws and treat all veterans the same. I like the idea of local teachers that might be interested in a local, community based, field trip with a purpose, coming to the VAC for a tour. Anyone can come see it, get a tour, say hi. See what it's about. Look at the walls, the art, the collections, and feel the history. I've never seen WWII surrender documents before. Amazing! There are many craft items, motivational and patriotic items for sale. They're all made by vets, and the price is a donation to the VFC. Think about it."

"Jim Wagnor and the team are a great group who do so much for the local Vets! If you haven't been there, you are missing out. If you are Vet who needs medical supplies, give them a call as they may be able to help you out! Great job!"

"During our May 16 Pep Assembly at Hempstead, veterans from the Freedom Center spoke to the members of our senior class who are joining the military. Charlie Brimeyer did a fantastic job of honoring our students and representing the Freedom Center. We thank you for your service once again! Peggy Dolson and the Pep Committee of HHS"
