"I'm autistic and I used to go there when I was in middle/junior high (I was a student). We had fun outings occasionally, and it's clear that they (perhaps) want to help disabled people, but looking at their website, I couldn't help but notice that they're supporting Autism Speaks. I don't know if they realized this, but Autism Speaks is not a good organization. They are ableist, they misrepresent autistic people and are trying to search for a cure for autism. My family would support them, and I didn't know about the controversy surrounding Autism Speaks until doing a bit more research over the past several months. There's an organization called ASAN (Autism Self Advocacy Network), and they are an even better organization. I strongly encourage you all to look it up. Now I don't think Sierra Foothills Academy in general is terrible, but I do also want to strongly encourage them to support ASAN as well."
