Caron's Campus Area Housing

"I did not realize it at the time, but this rental company had me sign and date my entire year term lease of checks in advance, which is called check kiting. I worried about the whole thing especially since I was a broke college student and was living paycheck to paycheck. They assured me that it was alright and it was just done for everyone's convenience. This a felony and an illegal practice because despite writing the date the rent is supposed to come out, technically Caron's can deposit the check and withdraw those funds from your account at any time. Do not do this, it is illegal for them to ask you to do it and if so, report them and let your bank know about the situation. They are taking advantage of students and it is not right. I expect more from a company that provides a majority of off campus housing in the Eau Claire area."

"I have had a very poor experience with Caron Campus Area Housing. I have rented from them for almost four years and live in one of the duplexes in the country which were supposed to be a "higher end" condo living experience. Ever contact with the office staff has been horrible. Staff, especially a woman named Chris (I believe) were extremely rude and condescending. When I called to let them know my car had gotten stuck in the driveway for the THIRD time in two weeks as she snow had not been removed, I was told that I wasn't the only one waiting to get plowed out. Mind you, this was over 12 hours AFTER the snow had stopped. When asked why my $50 'condo fee" was not being used for lawn care and snow removal, I was told that there are many other properties that the landlord has that need the lawn care and snow removal first?!?! Many times my requests for service have been ignored. I would call to follow up on a service request I entered, I was told on several occassions that it had been completed when clearly it had not. But, on the plus side, my neighbors were nice!"

"Rented from them and they aren't bad people but they will charge you extra when you move out. Example, I've been charged for scrapes in the counter, holes, and a missing screen even though the scrapes and holes were their when I moved in and we NEVER had the screen. We even reported the stuff on the move-in sheet. Also, be prepared to clean when you move in. We found cat hair in/on everything and cat treats in the cupboard when we moved in that had expired 2 years before. There was also dirt in dried paint in the tub and all of the sinks. So, any fee they charge you for "cleaning" when you move-out is BS. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. Honestly, I wish I had money to throw away just to sue them for BS charges but it would cost more than the $80 they charged soo...."
