"I walked in and the receptionist was helping out another patient. She was asking him for his personal information out loud which I thought was strange. When it was my turn, she began asking me the same questions, including my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, out loud. I noticed there was a clipboard propped up on the desk next to her with the same exact questions on it, which is what you would expect to have to fill out instead of listing your name, address, phone number and SSN out LOUD. I have to believe this is against HIPAA and patient confidentiality. Anyone could have heard me say my SSN… she just didn’t want to have patients write down their info and her type it up? Seems incredible irresponsible and unprofessional. Not to mention she had a pamphlet in front of her about how to care for parakeets and was taking personal calls while working."
