"We lived here 2019-2021 and loved it!! The staff were great and lobby always clean. Units are wonderful size and feels very homey."
"I'm giving The Grand 2 stars but 5 stars to Ramanda and her team at the Concierge. Ramanda is always so nice and helpful (also her staff). They really are the best thing about this place. This isn't a horrible place. However, for the price, you can get better. Pros: nice size apartments that have a washer/dryer, dishwasher and garbage disposal and lots of storage. I hardly hear my neighbors. There is a gym and a jacuzzi on the 6th floor. They always offer good concessions to move in. Cons: All the cooking smells come into your apartment. Packages get stolen often from directly in front of your door. The elevators break down all them time. One of them was out for 3 months. My direct neighbor got shot while out on his balcony. Not The Grands fault but wanted to give you an idea of the neighborhood. For instance, I live in unit 711 and there's a ton of noise outside from the homeless crazy's trashing stuff to the garbage trucks who come around 5 AM about 5 times a week. You'll hear car alarms going off every day and night. There's no security. So homeless people sleep in the parking overhang attached to the building. Even in our secure, gated garage I noticed this week a cars window smashed. Other cars just follow the one in front of them going in to the garage. No onsite management (who IMO are a waste of time to deal with). When you try to get ahold of them, you'll get a response the next day. They must have a lot of people working for them because I get someone new each time. If you like crows, you'll love the 1000's of them outside each morning and night. The Grand offers $1000's of dollars in incentives to get people to live here. Maybe, they should incentives the current tenants to stay? Just a thought. Work smarter, not harder folks!!"
"lived here for two years…while the location and size of the apartment are great…that’s where it ends.. Management is terrible. They are not located onsite and good luck getting in touch with them. That requires multiple calls. Specifically the managers Vanessa and Erin are no help, no added value and will lie straight to your face. Literally lied over and over about a homeless man living in the staircase. I reached out to the execs and no response. Maintenance staff is cool. Andy always went above and beyond. Sauna and gyms are old and outdated. Always dirty. Small as hell. Elevators always broken. Trash collector noise all the time in the morning. Windows are filthy. Don’t bother asking them to clean “never good weather”. Don’t get me started on how they wanted $2900 from me a month but we’re offering it for $2500 online with 6 weeks free. I asked if I could get the $2500 without the 6 weeks free And they said no. Oh and Eric on the staff is beyond rude. Lastly, they expect the concierge to be security for the building (not their job at all) and somehow get up 30 times a hour to let delivery folks up the elevator. Only started giving them a 30 min break recently during which time no one is at the door."
"This is an update. I have now been at the Grand close to 3 years and lived here prior as well. It's incredible how fast the decline has happened the last few years. There is no management on site and it's clear as day to everyone who lives here. Switching to remote fully during COVID and not coming back (likely to save costs) is not a winning strategy. One elevator has been down for over 3 months and it's not uncommon for one of the other 3 to be down as well. There is close to no communication from management outside of the occasional warning of parking and fire alarm checks. It should also be noted there is no security onsite at the building. Yes, there is a person at the front desk - however no security. Multiple times cars have driven into the parking garage that shouldn't be there. Multiple times this year people have been in the public spaces past the opening times and nothing has happened. I will be moving out after my lease is up. This place went from one of the best places to live in Oakland to a hard pass - and it's not the building itself (though a bit outdated) - it's the management. There are better options for this price point in East Bay and SF. Residents here deserve better and it appears the concerns from my neighbors and myself are essentially ignored."
"This building has really gone down hill in the time I’ve lived here (over 2 years). I believe the main reason why is that there appears to be no management presence in the building. This had led to some of the degradation in the experience of living in this building. Some examples: 1. Resident/maintenance issues take an unbelievably long time to resolve as you have to email the property owner and they may take up to 2 days to respond. 2. The elevators are somehow always breaking down and taking weeks on end to fix. It has become normal for only 1 elevator to be in service for extended periods. If building management was actually present in the building, they would notice the queues that form with residents trying to go to their apartments. 3. The building lobby and some floors always smell. Always. If management was actually in the building, this would be immediately identified and resolved. I will acknowledge that the building has recently invested in repainting, upgrading apartment locks, and improving the professionalism of the concierges. In the grand scheme of things it feels like the quality of this apartment building has degraded. With alternatives popping up in the neighborhood, you’re better served living elsewhere."
