About the Business

San Gregorio State Beach

San Gregorio State Beach is a beautiful park and tourist attraction located at 20063 Cabrillo Highway South in San Gregorio, California. The park is open from 8:00am to sunset and offers a stunning natural setting with a wide sandy beach, grassy bluffs, and a driftwood-strewn estuary that is home to many birds and small animals.

Visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the area, as well as learn about its historical significance as California Historical Landmark 26 commemorates the passage of Spanish explorer Captain Gaspar de Portolá through the area in 1769.

Please note that dogs are not allowed on the beach, beach fires are prohibited, and collecting shells or driftwood is not allowed. Additionally, drones are not allowed in the park to protect wildlife and cultural resources.

Camping is not available at San Gregorio State Beach, but nearby state park campgrounds like Half Moon Bay State Beach and Butano State Park offer camping options. Visitors can also participate in California State Parks Backpacking Adventures, which offers naturalist-led backpacking trips through the Santa Cruz Mountains each summer.

For events and weddings, permits are required, as well as a photography permit for commercial photography. The park is supported by the Coastside State Parks Association and the Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, who help fund and maintain the park.

"Wonderful beach off Highway 1. It’s between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. It’s a great spot to stop and rest. Relax by the beach or walk around and explore. There are two caves in by the beach and some picnic tables."

"Beautiful beach, very clean, access to the sand would be a little difficult if you have mobility issues. The day we were there the whole coast was windy. Nice long beach to walk."

"The beach is easily accessible. It's really cool to look at the wooden structures that people have built. I like that everyone kinda respects the work that went into them. It's a great beach for kids, not a long walk to the water and plenty of exploring for them to do with all the rocks and wood around. It's a really nice drive straight up La Honda for a scenic route."

"Lovely, quiet beach. There is a good amount of parking (costs $8). Next to the parking lot there are a lot of picnic benches that look out at the ocean as well as a good sized public bathroom with 4 stalls. There were several people fishing but we still had plenty of space to enjoy the water and nearby cliffs. There is a short but fairly steep walking path up one of the cliffs with nice views. There isn't much else to do nearby but it's a fun place to visit and enjoy a day at the beach!"
