"Worst hotel ever. Do not stay here. There was several issues with this hotel. The usual one star review. Old hotel, smells like death, bad service, feels unsafe....but the issue that pushed my over the top was when I was told to wait outside on the street by the hotel manager until someone came to check me in. So I had to sit outside the door and just wait. Just wanted to get in the front door and check in to my room during normal check in times! Very rude. Had a two night stay booked. And after all the issues I checked out after the first night. Was told that for the inconvenience I would not be charged for the second night. Well, They lied! Been two weeks of me trying to recoup the second night charge and the hotel will not reimburse."
"On our way back down from our Road trip north to the Redwoods, we came across this beautiful storytelling town called Saint Helena. We fell in love with the town’s charm and while walking down Main Street I found this hotel… Walking in I felt I had gone back in time… with its beautiful antiques and sweet English garden. Overall, I loved our stay! Upon check-in, Robin, was super friendly and informative on what to do around town… even gave us a 2 for 1 coupon for a winery and pointed us towards the information center across the street. Robin was always more than happy to help … with lots of fun ideas on what to do around or near town… a real jewel. Our room was spacious with its high ceilings and beautifully decorated with antiques. The beds were super comfy with clean fresh smelling linens… plus it had a big bathroom. I am a light sleeper; amazingly I did not hear our next-door neighbors or their baby or anyone else either even though the hotel was full… I slept like a baby every night. We came for one night and ended up staying 3 nights. Since, Saint Helena is close to Napa & Sonoma Wineries, Calistoga and Sausalito… and because of Robin. EVERY morning Robin had fresh fruits, pastries and bottled waters for the guests to enjoy 24/7… unlike other hotels that scurry to remove breakfast away right at 9 a.m. sharp… Highly Recommend Hotel St. Helena."
"The rooms were not clean. The room I had booked for my friend experienced a severe plumbing/sewage issue. No one answered the emergency line. To ad insult to injury, I had dropped my wallet on Saturday and noticed it within hours. (I had checked it Friday afternoon). I went to the lobby several times to see if anyone had returned it. It out another guest at the hotel did ask them if I was registered and they were told "no". They made every attempt to contact me and sent an email to a company I was affiliated with. I found out Monday too late to avoid the 3 hour delay at the airport and missing my flight. The location was the only thing good about this place."
"Our experience with this hotel excited our expectations and the expectations based off of previous reviews. This is not a normal hotel but more of a "bed and breakfast feel". The rooms were clean as well as the bathrooms (NO "blood" or "stains" on towels). Lots of character and charm as well as great location in St. Helena close to a great amount of wineries and shops. The price you a paying for is location. We would have given this hotel really a 4 star rating but so many other ratings were so unnecessarily negative for this hotel, that we wanted to even the rating out."
"Hotel St Helena was a fantastic surprise to stumble upon. The location was perfect, right in downtown St Helena within walking distance of numerous shops and restaurants. A short drive gets you to plenty of wineries and vineyards for tastings and tours. The hotel itself is beautiful inside. Wonderful old woodwork and furniture throughout. The breakfast nook is charming and cozy and the continental breakfast offered is a delight. Very simple, but a step up from the usual cheap pastries and mini muffins you so commonly find. Margie, the concierge that assisted us, was very sweet and attentive to our needs. She offered great advice for local restaurants and places to visit as well as providing a very useful map of the area. Price is well under many of the other hotels near by but not the cheapest option in town. The room itself was small but perfectly adequate for two people. Again, very cozy and charming as was the entire hotel. I opted for a room with a queen bed and a private bath just for the added amenity. The shower lacked water pressure but ran plenty hot and was a good size to not feel crowded while bathing. Cheaper rooms were available with shared bathrooms or there was an option to upgrade to a California king bed for those who need extra room to spread out. There was only one outlet in the room which was being used to the max for the lamp and TV/cable box. A minor inconvenience that could be solved with a power strip. The windows were difficult to open and slightly dangerous to be honest. Those were about the only negatives I found though. Some other reviewers voiced concerns about botched reservations when booking online. I checked into the hotel in person and it is fairly obvious this establishment is not up to speed with the high tech world we live in. Personally, I viewed this as extra character and felt it added to the charm of the hotel. Information was taken down on real carbon-copy paper which was used for my receipt. My suggestion is to make your reservation in person or over the phone if you're concerned about accuracy. The staff was very attentive to telephone calls and customers who were in the lobby. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family. Wonderful old-world charm, great location, and a very friendly staff."
