The Surf Inn at Gualala

"Not sure what happened to the other customers, but for sure, electricity was down for about 5 hours Thursday 7 March evening, leaving us without light, internet connection, and heater. The facts are: 1. My invoice does not show any discount, 2. When I checked-out Friday at 7:45, the office was closed and nobody was manning it, (best way to avoid unhappy customers) 3. There was not even a note under my door to apologize for the disturbance, 4. The bathrooms could get a fresh coat of paint."

"Go ahead and read it below. You will not be compensated for the power outages. The manager mentioned to me they have outages often AFTER our stay. You will likely have an outage on your stay so be prepared. Save the $143 for a single queen room and sleep in the car. Going around with blankets and a flashlight? Yeah that’s called camping. I must note, the person who helped us on 3/7 however was very nice and helpful. Maybe her manager can take notes. Update: I want to make the pricing clear, I got mixed up since we not only booked one room, but two. $143 total for the single queen room ~$160 for the double twin room. I won't be updating further since we have a fundamental disagreement on knowing if there will be power in the room or not. The manager made that clear when I asked about it, outages happen often here."

"We had no power from 8pm to 12:30am. The manager was supposedly on site but did not communicate with any customers regarding what was going on. We had no heating, internet, cell service, or power. When we went to speak with the manager in the morning, she claimed that we had already gotten a discount and therefore she could not do anything. There was no discount mentioned when we checked in, nor was it on our receipt. Apparently this happens all the time here, something that was not mentioned at any time or anywhere when we booked the room. Do not go if you expect any kind of halfway decent customer service after spending the evening in what turned out to be essentially a luxury tent for $140."

"I had to cancel my reservation the day of arrival. The front desk woman was so kind and understanding and went out of her way to help me receive a refund as my daughter-in-law had a medical emergency with the kidney stone. It was an example of non-computer, non-binary and prohuman behavior. It's very rare these days and will me want to stay there whenever I come up to this area. Very, very nice people. Thank you so much!"

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Surf Inn in Gualala. The receptionist, Jade, is very kind and helpful. She gave us great recommendations for trails and parks in the area. The room was very clean and comfortable for us. The hotel is located in the center of Gualala so it’s easy to walk to nearby restaurants, stores, and even some trails (Gualala Bluff Trail). There is a great view of the ocean and a lagoon that is fed by the Gualala river. We saw a wide array of birds and seals in this area directly across from the hotel which was really cool! I am looking forward to returning here for future visits."
