"I came to the salon this weekend to receive hair styling and make-up before a wedding. Starting with the positive, I really liked the way my hair was styled! The stylist, whose name I regrettably don’t recall, asked what I wanted and gave me the very style I had hoped for. She was skilled, efficient and fun to work with, and if I were rating based solely on her services, then this review would have been positive. Unfortunately, the make-up I received from Jessi was so underwhelming that not even the great hair styling I received from her colleague could salvage my experience. I left the salon feeling embarrassed by my make-up, which made me look tired and disheveled. None of it looked symmetric, especially my eyebrows, and the overall look was very unflattering for my skin tone and hair color. In retrospect, I should have been assertive and informed Jessi that I wasn’t satisfied, but I neglected to do so beyond asking her to touch up my eyebrows (they were still asymmetric and off-colored despite her efforts to fix them, though to her credit she did improve them following my request). That is my fault for being too passive. In any case, my make-up was shoddy and not what I would have expected from a reputable salon. Rue 48 can accommodate formal hair styling, but I would avoid this salon for make-up services."

"This was my first time going here and I had a wonderful experience. When I called to make an appointment the receptionist was friendly and helpful. Derek did a wonderful job on my hair. He was super helpful and I loved how my hair turned out."

"For several years I have wanted to color my hair but was hesitant to end up with an unwanted color. After several consultations with local salons. I chose Rue 48 because the staff was friendly and helpful. During my consultation I showed Sarah multiple pictures of the color and look I was going for. She seemed to understand exactly what I was going for. I also liked that “All services include a complimentary head & neck massage as well as a stress-relieving hand treatment!” What more could you ask for in a day of treating yourself? So, I scheduled my long-awaited appointment. Finally, the day comes. With some anxiety I enter the salon. I talked with Sarah and again we went over the pictures of the color/look I wanted. She didn’t express any reservations or concerns, So I put my hair in her hands. Well… 3+ hours later. Exactly what I feared. I didn’t get the color I wanted, not even close. The pretty violet purple I wanted, came out blue/grey! You can still see my natural (brown) color where we discussed doing a "full color" from the shoulders down. And I didn't get the color framing my face. (see images below) Sarah told me to wash it a few times and see if it would help bring out the purple color I wanted. I don’t care how many times you wash blue/grey hair it’s not going to turn purple. I left the salon quickly, very disappointed, almost in tears. I had saved a long time to treat myself, only for it to come out completely wrong. And to top it off I didn’t get my complimentary head & neck massage and the stress-relieving hand treatment. A stress-relieving hand treatment would have been a nice bonus after this experience. I called the salon a few hours later and they got me in for a recolor the next day with Leanaya. I showed her the pictures of what I was going for. She was much more experienced in color. She told me they didn’t have the exact color in stock that I was looking for. That would have been nice to know the first time around. Leanaya brought out a color palette. We picked a few colors that looked good together. In the end the color didn’t come out the exact violet purple I wanted. But at least it was a shade of purple, NOT blue/grey. Once again, I was disappointed that I did not get my “complimentary head & neck massage as well as a stress-relieving hand treatment!” As advertised on their website. After spending two days of my vacation in a salon. I just wanted this experience to be over. Overall, my experience at Rue 48 was not what I expected. Sarah should have been honest during my consultation. She should have checked that they had the color I wanted in stock and told me that coloring hair wasn’t her expertise. She should have suggested I meet with Leanaya or another stylist with more color experience. I would have respected the staff, Sarah and Rue 48 for the honesty. Rather than just trying to get a client into the chair. Unfortunately, this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth for Rue 48."

"Brought my Mother-in-law there on a whim while we were visiting. She lost a lot of her hair during chemotherapy and it's now growing back, but she needed a cut. Her stylist made her feel beautiful and they were welcoming and affordable. Highly recommend this salon!"
