About the Business
YouthAbility Thrift Shop is a unique institution located at 1309 11th Street in Arcata, California. Our store offers a wide variety of affordable items for sale, including clothing, household goods, and more.
But we are more than just a thrift shop - we are a place where Humboldt County youth can gain valuable life skills and job training. Our program was established in 2006 to help young people facing barriers to employment, such as those in the foster care system. Now, we welcome all youth aged 16-24 who need support in entering the workforce.
At YouthAbility, our dedicated team of employees, trainers, and case managers work together to provide a supportive and inclusive environment for our trainees. We believe in the power of teamwork and connection to help young people reach their goals.
Our training programs take place in our 5,000 square foot building, which houses both our bustling thrift shop and a resource center. Trainees have the opportunity to gain hands-on retail experience while also receiving support in developing important life skills.
We are committed to offering a comprehensive program that empowers young people through education, training, and self-empowerment. Whether you are transitioning out of foster care or facing financial challenges, YouthAbility is here to help you build a brighter future.

"Very big location for Arcata, tons of clothes. I don't usually feel their prices are too high, and they do have a fair amount of sales. Furniture is always very well maintained and seems like it would be long lasting items. Decent selection for nearly anything I am looking for, I usually am looking for craft stuff, clothing and jewelry. Nearly always end up with more than I was looking for!"
