Tri-City Animal Shelter

"Today I had to surrender my dog and it was the worst experience. I felt that my experience had everything to do with how “I” looked (black) and the conversation reflected that. I waited for 20 mins before being asked the reason for my visit but other people that came in after me (white) were asked right away and I was the last one to be asked even though I was there first, but I digress. The young lady asked if I had submitted the necessary paperwork prior to my visit today and I did confirm that it was sent 2 weeks prior. She informed me that she was unable to locate my email. I then pulled up my email and confirmed the date and person that I emailed, at that time she asked for my email (again) and stated she located my email. She then proceeds to say that my dog would most likely be put down. She ask if I would bring my dog in. I bring in my 1 year old pure bred German Shepherd and she tries to approach him and he moves away from her and cowards near me. She then says this is not looking good for him. I proceed to tell her that it’s because I’m here but he is extremely friendly. He doesn’t show any aggression towards her,no barking, growling, snapping, his hair isn’t standing up on his back. He’s just laying on me. I assured her that he’s a sweet heart. She asked what was the youngest age of kids he’s been around, I stated 3 and she asked does he get along with other dogs I confirmed both big and small dogs and cats. I asked if I could escort him to the back and she said I would have to but it’s not looking good for him. At this point I feel like she doesn’t want my dog to be there, solely because of me. I cried and left and she states “we’ll take good care of him”. I felt that was disingenuous. I tried to find a foster home but was unsuccessful. Stone is a pure bred 1 year old German Shepherd that would make the best pet but I feel like she couldn’t get past “me’ and that is so disappointing."

"I was privileged to foster a young dog here while she recovered from her spay surgery.The staff is very helpful and friendly. I also walk dogs here weekly and they all seem very loved and so well cared for. I’m very grateful that I get to do this. Please consider adopting your future fur baby from this shelter. They all deserve a loving home."

"Guinea pigs, several, were dumped at Lions Park 2 weeks ago. Those little guys aren't meant to be out in the "wild". Over the next couple of days, I managed to catch 5. Tri-City took all 5 of them. They made everything simple and I didn't have to argue with them about them, like I have when turning in strays elsewhere. Most important, they showed care and interest in the animals."

"Staff is very rude and didn’t care if the cat I went to look at was mines or not I Suggest they all should find a profession they actually like doing if their gonna treat people like trash or let me guess maybe they just judged me from my tattoos and the way I look and that I’m Mexican maybe? Most likely that’s what it is they treat the animals like trash and kept trying to convince me the cat wasn’t the cat I was looking for even though it WAS! I really honestly thought about contacting someone in a higher position about the way I was treated but I’ll let them make it because karma skips nobody but they don’t need to work there and deal with animals if their going to treat them with NO RESPECT TRASH WORKERS ESPECIALLY THE MANAGER THERE WAS ONLY ONE YOUNG GIRL WITH DARK RED HAIR WHO WAS NICE maybe I wasn’t white enough to get treated like a human to the rest of them PETRA IS HOME THANKS TO THE YOUNG GIRL AND MYSELF"
