MISSION BBQ

"Stopped in for lunch and I must say, it was delicious! I pride myself in being a bbq critic (especially half chickens), and Mission Bbq did not disappoint at all. The chicken was fall off the bone and perfectly smoked with a great smoke ring. The mac and cheese was very good and had a great texture. The green beans were mediocre but still ok. The cornbread was also very good. Price was what was expected and the atmosphere was very patriotic. All in all, I would return for the exact same dish. Staff was great!"

"Having just moved to Peoria and buying a new house here I decided to try some of the local food places by my house. This was at the top of my list because I love barbecue. I was excited to see prime rib as a special on the menu as I hadn't had any red meat in quite a while. So I ordered the prime rib and that came with barbecue beans and coleslaw and a piece of cornbread. I sat down and a few minutes later my name was called to come and pick up my meal at the counter. When I sat down to eat it I was ravenous as I had not eaten anything since early that morning. So I dug into the prime rib and cut off a piece of meat and dipped it in the au jus.... And my first bite was of disappointment. The meat and the au jus were both barely room temperature at best. The cold meat had barely any flavor to it and being cold just made it that much worse. I took a big fork full of the barbecue beans that had a healthy dose of pulled pork in them and while flavorful they were also lukewarm at best. I also had some of the coleslaw... Which as far as coleslaw goes I found to be rather unpleasant as it was barely chopped or shredded... It was huge chunks of cabbage that really needed to be reduced in size. Now considering this was counter service and I immediately grabbed my food the moment I was called I couldn't believe that in the time that I picked up my food walked to my table sat down and had a bite that I could have gotten cold. So my only conclusion is that the food they are serving is not of the proper temperature. I would hope that there are health inspections checking the temperature of what they are serving because these things all seemed dangerously cool. As I was finishing my meal and employee came by and asked if everything had been okay at which point I let her know that I was disappointed that the food was all cold and she immediately insisted on bringing me a full reserving of everything that I had, an insisted as she was going to be personally bringing it to me that would be piping hot. While I admire her enthusiasm and optimism and her desire to go above and beyond... what actually happened was she brought me another plate of food that she thought was going to be "piping hot" as she described it.... but once again was pretty much room temperature. This time the baked beans were marginally warmer but still barely warm at all. I really think that there is a problem in their kitchen area at this point. I would be very reluctant of going back to eat there as I do not wish to end up with a foodborne illness."

"Absolutely AMAZING. The staff was very nice and made the environment feel very welcoming. The food was amazing and they have an open kitchen so you can see your food being made. It was seasoned very well, not too much not too little. It didn't even need a BBQ sauce, in my opinion, but their Smokey Mountain sauce was very tasty. The food came out on baking sheets with what I believe to be butcher paper, giving plenty of support and convenient without being heavy."

"Very good BBQ at an okay price. My girlfriend didn't like the Mac and cheese, but I thought it was good it was different though, I think it had some corn meal in the recipe. I had the brisket sandwich which was more fatty than most places. Beans were phenomenal and overall pleased with our meals."

"Enjoyed our first visit. Good turkey, brisket, pulled pork and multitude of sauces. Don't know if there were promotions going on, but we got comp'd desert! Wished they served beer to enjoy with the great BBQ, though."
