"Needs to have dedicated self-checkout lanes to keep the lines moving especially if the cashier is off busy doing maintenance to the store (cleaning, stocking items) and not readily available to help the customer waiting there to scan items and process payments. In the meantime there could be 1 or 2 other employees just standing there at the APP-controlled 2 lanes doing nothing at times because a customer needs to have an APP on a phone linked to some payment method to utilize those lanes. Customers cannot just scan the items there and pay with a credit card and it seems that those 2 lanes could be better utilized. Also when the store or lines are crowded, a customer with 1 or 2 items should be able to use those 2 app-controlled lanes but when look over to the left, the 1 or 2 employees there seem to be idle not helping any without an app on a phone. This store could use at least 2 self-checkout lanes so a customer can pay with a credit card and not necessarily have to use an APP. Until more self-checkout lanes are installed or any here, it will probably be better to go to Aldi in Oswego or Aurora on Ogden or Wheaton have have self-checkout lanes -- more efficient for those who may get a few items that can be carried in hands and not use a shopping cart."

"I love Aldi, what I didn't like was the new checkout system. Your money comes out of your account days later. For someone on a budget its nice to know what you spend when you spend it."

"I feel like this place is conducting a cruel psychological experiment. They never sufficiently staff the registers, but for what feels like a year now, they have had an extra employee sitting guard at two 'new' self-checkouts that they refuse to open. They're at the point where they'd rather pay someone NOT to help you than improve their ever-backed-up lines. Update: They finally opened the self-checkouts and they're some bizarre dystopian model that requires a phone app to work. So you can now get out a little faster if you're okay with having all the personal data scraped from your phone and sold to anyone willing to pay for it."
