"I live in Austin, so this was a romantic one-night staycation with my partner as a night away from the kids. Located on 5th street, it is very walkable to nearby hot spots. Our room faced the iconic 6th street where we could watch all the action from a birds eye view, which was entertaining until it was time to go to sleep. The hotel is aware of the noise, so they do provide earplugs for guests to keep. Our room was VERY TINY. Reminded me of when I went backpacking in Europe 20 years ago. For a solo traveler, it would be a nice room, but to share with 2 people, it was a tight fit. There was no door for the bathroom, so there was no privacy. The toilet shares the same space with the shower. It's also worth noting that there is a rain showerhead only. If you don't want to get your hair wet, bring a showercap. Not everyone washes their hair every time they shower, but it's tough to shower without getting your hair wet with no alternative than a rain shower. The sink shares a space with your small counter space as well. There is little space to place your things or sit down much less to store your luggage. We had to move things around the room as we moved from one side to the other. The room and accessories were nice, but for what we paid for one night, we felt like they cut a normal size room in half so they could charge the rate of a full-size room twice. We did not have a chance to eat at their restaurant, but we did have a nightcap at the downstairs restaurant bar as the upstairs bar that is advertised was closed. While we relaxed at the bar, the fire alarm went off. This is probably an isolated experience, but it's worth noting that the staff had no idea what to do and it took 10 minutes of everyone, including the restaurant full of guests, ignoring the alarm before management told us that we needed to evacuate. We stood outside in the cold for another 10 minutes before the false alarm was confirmed. The concern here is not only did no one know what to do, but we had friends in their room where the alarm never went off. Strange, but it could be a potential safety hazard. Aside from the compact rooms, the faulty fire alarm, and their featured entertainment venue being unavailable, the lobby was beautiful, and the staff was friendly. I probably would not stay there again as we left feeling like it was not worth the price at all. You are paying for the luxury brand of The Thompson, but are getting a fraction of the experience, and we felt that should be more reflected in the price."

"Location is great if you’re looking for fun, but if you want a peaceful experience it’s a bit too close to 6th street. At the Tommie the rooms are…cozy. The service was the tough part. We ordered room service, waited an hour (they said it would be 45 mins), when we called back they said they never got our order. This happened twice! We didn’t get our “breakfast” until noon. I hope my experience was not normal, but I won’t be coming back. There are too many wonderful hotels in downtown Austin to risk having that experience again."

"Won't be staying here again. This was my 50th birthday. Room was tiny.. not super bad but the shower leaked and a lot of the electrical outlets just didn't work. One of the reasons we chose this place was Myrtle but no one mentioned it was closed for renovation until we got there. When we tried to order breakfast room service, it was advertised to open at 7am. But every time I went on the app the opening time was pushed back. And then when I was told my food, my so called room service was left downstairs and was now cold. Another reason was the Austin Experience tours.. guess who never showed, after waiting over an hour we opted to just end our trip. Now for the cherry on the top... after calling a day and really just ready to go home. We requested the mandatory 59.00 dollar a valet retrieve our vehicle.. over an hour later waiting in the freezing lobby and still no car. When I asked if this was normal hotel staff lied to my face that this wasn't the norm. I was told that it was due to a special local event... but reviews of the place showed us this is a known issue going back at least a year. An hour and thirty minutes later we finally received our car."

"Rooms are small but smartly appointed. The use of space is well thought out and as someone who usually travels solo for work, I didn't need more. If you want a room that is large with a full couch, etc this hotel might not be for you. That being said, as a Hyatt Globalist, the service was excellent. I was upgraded through the app before check-in from a basic king to a corner king with pool view. Nice explanation of my benefits and very friendly staff at check-in. I needed a couple things printed and all I had to do was email it to the front desk and they even offered to run it up to my room. Service was just phenomenal. Breakfast at the restaurant was good. I didn't think their menu was anything special but it was a nice Globalist benefit for sure. Good location. I didn't have any issues with 6th Street noise and I stayed on a Saturday night."

"My review will be long! First I was able to check into the hotel 1 hour early. Staff was very nice! But the hotel is Valet only! They charge $50+ a night plus a hidden fee they do not tell you ( destination fee) which I was charge an additional $35 for every night! I stayed 2 nights and was charged a total of $197.74 for valet parking!!!! We were giving a QR code to get our car from valet. We used the QR code assuming valet was getting our car , but after waiting 16minutes someone informed us the QR code was not working and waited another 15 minutes before we got our car. My main issue with valet is when I got my car my engine hood had been popped open! I never got answers why it was open but nothing seemed wrong with my car. As for my room, I loved the design , it was cool and unusual. The housekeeper crew is amazing and professional! The views were beautiful, the hotel itself is in a good location, the hotel restaurants were nice. Also close to 6th street but don't hear the noise from the bars/clubs."
