Hip Pocket Theatre

Hip Pocket Theatre, located in Fort Worth, Texas, has been a cornerstone of the performing arts scene since 1976. Founded by Johnny Simons, Diane Simons, and Douglas Balentine, this innovative theater company presents interdisciplinary plays under the stars, blending dance, mime, music, masks, and puppetry to create a unique and magical storytelling experience. The theater's programming defies traditional genres and incorporates a universal language that resonates with audiences of all ages.

With a commitment to original, boundary-bending works, Hip Pocket Theatre continues to push the boundaries of traditional theater. Under the new directorship of Lorca and Lake Simons, daughters of the founders, the theater remains dedicated to inclusivity, accessibility, and international collaboration. "Cozy, comfortable, and romantic atmosphere, this is an amazing place to be. Live music, drinks, and the fully outdoor area was perfect on a beautiful night. Then we went to the show! It is a small outdoor theater, a wooden and sturdy construction with the show in mind! The actors come out from any direction, putting the audience smack dab in the performance. And the show was fantastic! I highly suggest this venue for a cute night out on a good night!"

"Hip Pocket is a really special place. From the moment you pull into the entrace, you can tell it was founded by hippies in the 70's, and that creativity, experimentaion, and community spirit has survived to today. It's one of the few theaters where I'm happy to arrive early and stay late, because their backyard always has music, a bar, and chill vibes. When the shows are good, they're great, and when they're not as good, they're still really fun. Can't beat the price or the atmosphere. P.S. If you're worried about seeing outdoor theater in the heat, the temperatures feel quite reasonable once the sun goes down."

"Wow! What an absolutely great experience we had. How is it possible we’ve not heard of this venue before?? Definitely at the top of Fort Worth’s best kept secrets! The backyard prior to the show is literally just that. It felt like we were invited to a friend’s backyard to chill, have some cocktails and listen to some really good music. It was very full of people, but didn’t feel crowded at all. They had a nice selection of wine and beer at reasonable prices and of course non alcoholic beverages as well. The ringing of the bell tells us it’s Showtime! The small open air amphitheater was just the cutest venue ever. There are three tiered seating sections with wooden benches in a horseshoe shape. The stage is easily visible from any perspective. As our ticket person said “Not a bad seat in the house”….agreed. The show performance and musical arrangements were excellent! Bravo! Exceeded my expectations and then some! The 411 Gravel roads and very dark driving in Gravel walkways and uneven paths inside venue Credit cards are accepted Cash tips are encouraged for the entertainment Food is by reservation only Alcohol is served Plenty of seating no need to bring your own Bring a small cushion pad for the theater benches No late seating No reentry if you leave the theater"

"This theatre will forever be a place of magic. Nowhere else, in all my travels, have I found a place like it. The actors and owners (artists and writers) create so much beauty and peace. Sitting under the stars watching their joyful presentation and listening to the beautiful music is an UNMATCHED night out."
